I usually just take your responses, add a few words and call them my own. Hell of a lot easier than thinking for myself:)

I think it's being moderated well as it is; It's supposed to be a war zone by nature.

To the contrary, I've had many, many respectful discussions, especially concerning religion. None of them have been in open forums, where flaming and ad hominem attacks are the norm.

I think you have the boot on the wrong foot. Perhaps you should read read what I wrote. I didn't call people who disagree with me neofascists.

Why don't you find a Politics/Religion forum and post there? All you do on DP is post in the P/R section...

Isn't DP first and foremost a Webmaster Forum?

I think it's great that Shawn put a P/R specific forum section on here to keep it out of the other discussions.

IMO - and I honestly don't visit it much (actually iv visited it twice since I came here lol) It's a war zone. Report posts you think are bad.. that's all you can really do.

Well, there is this element of free speech which is pretty much unique on this forum. It's a good thing that people can talk about stuff other than webmaster related topics. I think that we have to have a place where we can express ourselves without bothering those who are not interested in reading it. So when you have a problem with what is being said in PR ... then why even bother to go there? Will you go on all the other Political forums out there? Of course not! It's a small section here, and if you don't like it ... ignore it!

I actually enjoy discussing religion in it's various forms, though I generally do stay out of forums like the P&R one here as it's little more then bickering. I really equate it with the chat rooms on YAHOO for the same thing. It's two closed minded sides flaming each other.

If it was discussion and debate rather then bickering and hate then I think more people would check it out and not just ignore it.

I used to Admin on a religious forum that had a politics section. We had a standing (and posted) rule that if posting in that forum was all you did, then you were not welcome and we asked such people to kindly log out & spew their propaganda elsewhere. I liked the rule (though it was rarely enforced). I'm not sure it would work here (and I'd hate to be the one to implement it) but *shrug* it's certainly another thought to think about...

I see a lot of sensible people there, but unfortunately some people cannot handle a healthy debate. They are used to a system where only their religion can rule, so they are not prepared to have a friendly debate with those who disagree with them.

Which is exactly why I think a specific moderator for the board would maybe be a good idea... I also think that those sensible people could likely make some changes by utilizing the [IMG] button :D

That would be a full time job moderating and there would be a danger of bias entering those threads. They are unique because anyone can say anything. No matter how dumb it is.

A lot of people here seem to want to silence speech they don't like. use the ignore function. It's different if someone is overtly harassing or threatening you.

You could ask the thread starter. I have already complained on many threads about people with their red reps and "stoopid" comments, like "I smell curry" or "y u be so stoopid?"
