Politics and Religion section of the forum needs a dedicated moderator.

I think that a dedicated more would likely be good there. I think that a dedicated mod PLUS work from the members would likely be the best course though. Failing that, either or

I don't think the section needs a moderator. Sure there are trolls and morons, but from other P&R forums, as Rob said, this one is pretty tame. The infraction system seems to take care of people. People who name call are given infractions and we see them banned all the time. The only thing the moderator would do is gum up the works.

 

I would have to say that you (checksum) just don't like people disagreeing with you or in some cases just posting current daily events (facts)

There are a couple who are constantly on a personal attack level, but put them on ignore and that will fix your issue except I think you are always in agreement with them.???

 

I made this thread because I think if there were some changes we could have a more civilized forum. Afaik I've disagreed with you on one thing. I never thought of that disagreement as anything more than a disagreement, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

 

Correct — concerning a P&R forum, I have little hope for ongoing civilized discussion. I'll turn 64 next week and have been active in both religion and politics pretty much all my adult life. There has never, in all those decades, been a time when discussion of those two themes has been able to be moderated. People hold their positions with great passion, which basically by definition precludes "moderation" by some 3rd party.

And if the neofascist don't like what you say, they find your posts in other areas to red rep (systematically). The moderators don't care about any of this. P&R is where they are allowed to be the neofascists their heros are in real life.

 

Are you telling me you've never had a respectful discussion with someone you disagree with? That's what I think that forum could become. Everyone in that forum obviously has something they believe passionately, but I don't think that has to keep people from posting respectfully.

You realize that by calling the people who disagree with you neofascists you're inviting them to flame you back, right?

This is the kind of disrespect I think the forum could live without.

 

Moderators can only see their own rep.

I know there's a group of weasels that run around repping people every chance they get. They used to hit me all the time. But at the end of the day....it's just rep...it's 100% meaningless! Especially when you consider the source(s)

And Big Jim is right. Which is precisely why I don't talk about P&R w/ my family and friends. If they start, I just say, "Politics are gay... I don't pay attention to any of that." And for the most part, I really don't.

BTW- It's just my feeling, but I would think the P&R forum would be shut down before more rules or mods were added to it.

 

Add a mod that universally despises everything and everyone equally. That way there's no bias. Where the hell are the Moonanites when you need them...

 

I can tell you with 100% confidence that the mods here do not let their personal opinions or views sway their judgment while babysitting in the P&R forum.

Yeah, if someone reports something, it gets looked at and taken care of.

Being a jerk isn't against the rules. If it was, i would have been booted in Jan. 2005!

 

I think the P&R section gets the same level of attention as everything else - we deal with what's reported. If it doesn't get reported it doesn't get dealt with, simple as that. Anyone who would like to see better moderation in a section of this forum simply needs to spend more time reporting posts that break the rules. Every member here already is a mod in an indirect way.
