There are way too many personal insults thrown around and incredible amounts of trolling. Not much discussion happens, more time is spent arguing and behaving like children.

I think it would be better here if there was a dedicated moderator.

    Your thoughts?

Hahaha maybe we should have a children's section

Would a moderator be bias because of his own believes ?

Good idea, if there's someone who you think would be a good mod post here.

Don't flame, just post your opinions.

We'd have to write in a rule that strips the mod of his mod status if he starts acting on personal biases. It would have to be strictly enforced. I think there are a few people here who could handle that.

I agree with checksum , even if personal/religious/communal hatred post are reported, the post does not get removed.

I can take the heat, it's the constant stupidity that bothers me!

Seriously though, it wouldn't hurt to have someone here that kept everyone in line. If anything the quality of threads would improve.

Report any posts you feel are breaking the rules. Reported posts do not get ignored.

There are way too many to report in one sitting. Besides, it's not really about reporting people, it's about turning this forum into place where we can have quality discussions about politics and religion. I think we'd need some new rules set out for that to happen and that's where I imagine a semi-mod coming into play.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is a good idea though?

Personally, I think you're out of your mind.

Have you ever been to any other P&R forums? This place is extremely tame in comparison!

The last thing this section needs is more rules!- IMO

I've been to other P&R forums that were a lot better than this one and some that were a lot worse.

The best one was surprisingly on the ebaumsworld.com forum. It had a lot of intelligent people posting about current events and a couple of mods that made sure no one ruined the discussions. Maybe we could get the same thing going here?

It might sound crazy, but if it meant better threads I think we should give it a try.

Unless of course everyone else is happy with the flamefest this forum has degenerated to.

It seems to me that the decision is entirely Shawn's whether or not even to include a Politics and Religion forum. He has obviously decided 'yes'.

But to "moderate" a P&R forum? Not a chance. Sad to say, flaming and bias go with the territory in P&R discussions.

Mostly (not totally) I just stay out of the P&R forum — too upsetting to read so many diatribes and personal attacks. Why bother? :(

Don't do them all then...but do a few *shrug* If everyone that read the board that wanted to see it a better place would report a post or two, then maybe, just maybe change could happen.

One man can't change the world, but one man in many can. Be a part of the many! (that sounds like a sheep/flock reference)

That is very very sad and says a lot for both topics. I'm glad they are seperated from the rest of the forums, and while I'd love to have a few discussions about religion, I rarely visit the board here because of all the name calling, trolling, and other what-not's unbecoming humanity.

You guys are talking like there isn't any hope. All we really need is to get a dedicated moderator watching the forum that isn't going to be biased.
