Politics and Religion forum getting way out of hand

The politics & religion forum seems to be an ever escalating religious diatribe with people ignorantly attacking each other over the topics of Islam, Christianity and Judaism. These threads serve no constructive purpose and do nothing but spread hatred, fear and intolerance. Do they really have a place on what should be essentially a webmaster forum?

Serious consideration needs to be given about better moderating the politics & religion forum to eliminate hate/fear mongering threads that serve no purpose but to spread intolerance. Alternatively serious consideration should be given to entirely banning certain lines of discussion that can cause hostilities that spill over into the other forums. There are some subjects where no one is going to sway the opinion of others and where there is no middle ground. The latest Islam vs. Christianity threads are a case in point.

I'm tired of Muslims trying to convince everyone that Islam is peaceful when its not. Should people really remain silent and let them own a whole category spreading hatred?

When I am totally bored, I go there and just read a few threads.

Makes me a better person knowing that I am not part of the hatred there!

It is a forum that really should be moderated constantly, if not removed.

That post just deserves to be quoted in its entirety.

We should make it a sticky.

I think you miss my point. Regardless of whether or not I participate in said threads they still have a spill over affect on other forums/threads here. They also reflect DigitalPoint in a very bad light, which could hurt DP's reputation as well as turn new people off from joining.

I don't give a rip who is lying and who is telling the truth in those threads or on the subjects they cover. There is a time and place for most things and a webmaster forum would not seem to be the appropriate place for zealous religous diatribes.

The best thing to do is just report posts you think are abusive.

You reafirm my point about the need to restrict, moderate or eliminate the politics & religious forum. There are no universal truths that can be sorted out in these "discussions" and they do not make DigitalPoint a better place.

A lot of new members sign up, because they find the political threads thru individual search engine rankings.

The world is not a good place looking at it from that angle. Maybe DP is simply reflecting what we're experiencing "in real life".

On the topics in question one really can't moderate one side of the equation unless one does the same on the other side without alienating one group and adding further fuel to the strife. The only real solution is to ban certain topics all together. There are other way more appropriate websites that can better manage these types of discussions.

I agree, Either it should be closed or there should be some very strict rules. No discrimination, No attacking on people religion and respecting their beliefs. I am feeling sorry to say that DP mods and admin are not doing much about it. When a person tells you that dont talk bad about his prophet, book or his beliefs people should respect that.
Constructive critisism is good and debate is good too as long as no body's feelings are hurt but the issue is out of hand. I see everyday other people talk bad about muslims prophet and even God which they believe on too. If you dont care if someone talk bad about jesus that is your problem but if someone do feel bad then you shouldnt talk bad about him same to other prophets including Mohammed(pbuh) I think this is serious matter and should be taken care of. I also feel bad and i feel that Mods are discriminating muslims. I have reported many times about person attacking my religion and that hurts me but nothing seems to be done. I am not saying that you should take away your rights of free speech but it shouldnt hurt others. Do debate do critcise but remain in limits. I hope someone here will take care of this :)

I'm sorry, but: when we find sciptures in the Quran calling upon Muslims to attack Christians and Jews, are we not allowed to point those out?

Thanks :) The truth is, that a lot of new members don't even know what this forum is about, when they sign up. They simply find a thread in Google, and sign up to get into the conversations. A lot of conversations are about politics and religion. As long as the category is up, there will be more and more members joining just for the purpose of contributing to those.

People here dont understand what relegion means to others. I think i should tell you who dont know that as Muslims we are taught to respect all prophets, book(Quran,Torah,Bible and other holy books) and God. It may not hurt you if someone tells you a joke about jesus ( i have heared it a lot of time in US) but it sure hurts us if you joke about or say bad about jesus, mohammed or any other prophet. I think a sticky in rules should be made that do not joke on any prophet and God :D It will be fine then

Do point those out. We will tell you what was actually meant. Dont care if you feel islam is bad corrupt or anything but the main problem comes when you talk trash about Prophets,God take care of that and everything will be fine :)

The Politics/Religion forum was started for the sole purpose of keeping that crap out of the rest of the forum. That way people aren't forced to sift through it unless they really want to (by going in there).

As far as personal attacks or anything else, just report the posts... infractions have been given for it, and enough infractions means they are gone from Digital Point (banned).

These forums and their moderators are not properly equipped to manage and moderate these types of discussions. It is very easy for moderately informed individual to lift a small passage of ANY religious text out of context and pass it off onto the uninformed as truth. Religous forums need highly educated scholars from the various religious backgrounds who can provide reality checks and to act as moderators. I dare say there are no priests, rabbis or mullahs among the DP membership.

You guys have been owned hundreds of times. And never have you explained anything logically. The only explanation we get is that "you can't really understand the Quran unless you are an Arabic speaking Muslim".
