Contest Political Forum Logo OR Header - $30 /48hr contest

    This will probably be the style that I use.

    Multiple entries are allowed.

    The only requirements are that the logo incorporate the site name (Political Props) and that a PSD file be included. Other than that you have free artistic range.

    I suggest that the logo include allusions to the nature of the site which will include political arguments, news developments and ideological debates, but these are not requirements.

    I will choose the winner in 24 hours and reserve the right to end the contest early or extend the contest by up to 24 hours.

    /edit: headers can also be entered into the contest.

    Do not feel obliged to use the themes in the existing logo. It's not that great.

    An ad on the right should not be a restriction. Headers are perfectly acceptable.

    Good designs so far, although I'd like to see more than just the globe/skyline concept.

    The contest was supposed to end in about an half-an-hour, but I'm extending it 24 hours; it will now end on Monday at 8:02 PST.

    A lot of the designs posted look good, but they don't exhibit any uniqueness as it relates to a political forum. Moreover, a lot of the designs wouldn't look good with the color scheme I plan on using (and linked to in the original post). I hope these things will be taken into consideration if more designs are submitted.

    I decided not to go into specifics earlier because I didn't want to limit your artistic freedom, but I'm going to throw out a few basic expectations:

    - I want the logo to be simple. masjacky posted a good design in my opinion; however, it's a bit too cluttered. Conversely, Steve's design was good too, but it's much too simple. The simplistic concept is nice, but it's a logo that could be applied to any forum (sans the "politicalprops"). I want something that stands out and is identifiable with a political forum.

    - A web 2.0 design is preferred, but not necessary. I'm not running a cutting edge social network or blog, so I'm not looking for anything too out there in terms of abstractness and simplicity (as mentioned above). Witty and nidhi's designs are not what I'm looking for in terms of professionalism; they likely won't integrate well with my forum without looking awkward.

    - If you can implement the globe/skyline concept while still achieving what I'm looking for - great. But please don't feel obliged to use it. It's part of my current design that I currently do not like, so please keep that in mind. I don't think any of the designs thus far have done a great job incorporating that theme, mostly because they put way too much emphasis on those elements. A globe and skyline aren't necessarily the best ways to go about representing a political forum.

    - Please do not make a black and white design. At the same time, don't go overboard with the color. Keep a nice medium that is somewhere around what masjacky's design exhibits. Don't be afraid to go beyond that though.

    General feedback related to individual submissions;

    Viva, your last concept is my favorite. The globe concept is simplistic and can be easily incorporated into my forum. One concern that I have is that it is much too simplistic and could easily be applied to a wide array of forums. Another concern is the red (and possibly blue) font, which I don't believe would go well with my color scheme.

    nidhi, I think the black hill below the logo would look particularly awkward atop my navigation bar. The font is also much too simple and the colors too bland. The scanlines in the background also would look out of place on my plain grey background.

    Your second design doesn't blend the color and background image well. Also, a radio show and flames probably weren't the best choices for images.

    Witty, my concerns with your design are essentially the same. The black and white idea isn't great, nor is the font choice in your second design. I also plan on putting this logo on the top-left side of my navigation bar, so a logo aligned towards the right side of an image wouldn't fit well.

    masjacky, I like your design a lot, but I think you put too much emphasis on the city skyline and globe which seem to dominate the entire image. Aside from that, I like the two characters you added into the design, although I'd prefer they be interacting - perhaps facing each other to give the impression that they're arguing.

    Xavier, good design overall. My main critiques would relate to the stars, which I don't feel relate to my site's content at all. The font color, again, doesn't really go with the color scheme. I'd also like to recommend that the image not extend too far below the text, as this will be positioned right above my navigation bar.

    Steve, I like the web 2.0 aspect, but your design is too simplistic. It doesn't have any political elements within it and could be applied to any website should the text be replaced.

    I appreciate everyone's efforts and apologize in advance if I'm being too critical or difficult. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me (even through private messages).

    Note: I've added more content information pertaining to my site in the original post. Edit: added to the end of this post

    Thanks.

    Site Content Information

    A political forum should be pretty self-explanatory. It's basically a discussion board (like this one) where people go to talk about politics, current events, news, economic ideology, etc. There will be a section for current news, blog and opinion articles and places for people to voice their own opinions regarding foreign policy, political parties, civil rights, religion, science, etc. It's designed to allow anyone to participate, but I don't expect a large amount of global traffic - mostly just visitors from the U.S.

    A few sites to take into consideration when thinking about content:

    www.politicalforum.com
    www.politicsforum.com
    www.houseofpolitics.com
    www.politicalfray.com
    www.debatepolitics.com

    I think most of their logos are pretty terrible, though. :p

    Viva, I think I prefer the original font arrangement and color schemes. The text should be horizontal and not vertical. I'm also not a huge fan of the buildings and half elliptical on the side; there should be something more relevant to a political forum.

    The original star concept was on the Lines of US Presidential Logos. Here's another revision though.

    @Xavier

    Wow, great revision. If your design is selected would I be able to request alterations be made to it?

    @Viva

    Same goes to you - great design. I assume you do revisions as well?
