I liked this part of the story:

Someone (one person, I presume) complained! Holy Cow! Fire someone. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as always.

Please look into FCC guidelines and network timeslots and get back to me on that. Your glib analysis doesn't make a lot of sense.

    Here IS political correctness though:

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17388702/

Now, if you read the whole story (Ferret, this will stretch your abilities, but I have faith in you), the Mormon student was punished, but the student who actually used the student's religion as an attack "do you have 10 mommies" doesn't appear to be in trouble at all. That's political correctness in a nutshell, one group cannot be offended, while its perfectly fine to offend another. Selective offense.

Mormons enjoy no such protection, I guess.

Depends where you're at.... but I have no doubt in my mind that it's gonna get worse for a lot of us.

This is only the tip of the iceberg: did you catch that part in my paper (implied; but could be easily inferred)... hence the huge warning at the end. PC starts somewhere... and it's only been getting worse. It's not going to get better. See, if you look at it short-term (as in: it simply exists), you'll see nothing wrong with it. But if you'll open up and see the whole picture, you'll notice the dangerous incline in PC advocates.

Very true! Good point. That's what I was trying to get at in my paper. Of course, the following may seem racist to you all, but it's merely the stats: (racial, generally) minorities have lesser incomes and more poverty issues than natural-born Americans Caucasians in particular). Why? Well, some of it is just culture; e.g. blacks have different moral views than whites, thus usually leading to lower jobs, pregnancy, drug problems, etc. That's definitely a contributor to the numbers.

Eastern Iowa; in a rather racist town, actually... the problem has grown more subtle and a little less rampant, but (even though I myself am not racist) it's still there, for sure.

Ferret: Yes... the nudity on TV is an FCC guidelines matter; not PC matter... maybe do a quick look into that.

There is not much to gain from debating 'Political Correctness'. The term 'Politically Correct' is only used by silly news channels to create populist news pieces because they are so easy and cheap to produce.

Its just a choice of words, you can say vagina or you can say cunt. Whats the big deal?

*sigh* I'm afraid that PC no longer stands for Political Correctness. These days it stands, quite simply, for Political Crap.

Not as often as you like to think though darling. :p

I haven't said that word to describe you, GTech, Bush or Cheney for quite some time now.

I'm getting good at not saying that word here because you like to tell teacher on me if I do. ;)

A well written paper and very accurate indeed. As you have learned even in your education you encounter PC problems. It would be easy to just sigh and let the PC thing grow even stronger however, there are some of us that refuse to roll over and let it happen. Don't give up. Call a spade a spade.

I was specifically forbidden from mentioning "Bastards" in my speech writing class, and the teacher went on an on about it to the point where if I had been born out of wedlock, I would have been made uncomfortable by her.

Often people who try to force others to be PC wind up being less PC than the people they are trying to confront.

Edit: Oh, and I just realized that while writing this post I censored myself not to say "a person of illegitimate birth" because I just didn't want to deal with any outcry it might cause.

I read police reports in detail for a facet of my work. Depending on the crime, I have to act on some of them.

Some townships and cities do not identify race because they are afraid to offend the suspects' race.

It creates serious problems for me.

Bingo - our law enforcement being hindered and our protection being compromised by thought police.

Well, I'm glad this OP was a success...
