Political ads have taken over my site. WTF

I am just writing to vent a little here.

I live in California, and there is a huge proposition on the ballot this year having to do with a very sensitive issue to many people. It is Prop 8, and is proposing banning gay marriages. A step away from freedom, I believe. Anyway-

The election day is tomorrow, and I check my site today, and EVERY SINGLE adsense unit is a "Yes on Prop 8" ad. Nothing else, I guess the "Yes on 8"ers are paying huge sums of money to get their ads displayed no matter what the page topic is. I checked all my other sites running adsense and it is the exact same thing.

I went ahead and banned their site from my adsense account. Too bad it hasn't kicked in yet. What makes me upset is that this goes against my beliefs. Google totally just kicked me in the throat, I feel.

What is even worse is that webmasters in other states have no idea what kind of political ads their visitors in California are seeing!

I am considering removing adsense from my site until the election is over since I don't know what kind of ads people are seeing on my site from other states!

This is making a lot of people VERY angry. I have seen a few "Welcome to democracy" and "if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else" statements made on the google help forum.

They should really have a way for publishers to opt-out of political/religious ads. Why does google think it is a good idea to put Gay Marriage political/religious garbage on my weight loss site? Or bicycle site?

    Wow, I am mad.

    Rant over.

canada is just across the border where gay marriage is legal. we will put up a big sign on our land border saying "welcome to canada" (bigger sign than the one right now) :D there ARE some people who are going somewhere else actually. have a coworker from singapore who came to canada to so that she could marry her girlfriend

It's hard to believe that there is still such misunderstanding and hatred in the west
I mean if they are not bothering me and they are not doing anything illegal, why is ther getting married any of my business?

These Pro 8ers just manage to irritate more than anything else

Election ads pay well right now make good use of them while they last. well I guess just one week left.

If you don't want them use competitive ad filter and they won't show up

Yup, I'm seeing those ads everywhere (even here on DP) - the "Yes on 8" people must have targeted a lot of different keywords. That's what makes it so unexpected and frustrating - the ads have nothing to do with the context of the sites they are on. I removed adsense from my personal blog so no one would think that the ads reflect my personal politics.
