Extremist Muslims who force vulnerable teenage girls to convert to Islam are being targeted by police, Met chief Sir Ian Blair has revealed.

Police are working with universities to clamp down on "aggressive conversions" during which girls are beaten up and forced to abandon university courses.

    • Muslim pupils 'need their own showers'

The Hindu Forum of Britain claims hundreds of mostly Sikh and Hindu girls have been intimidated by Muslim men who take them out on dates before terrorising them until they convert.

Sir Ian spoke about the problem at a conference organised by the forum.

A Met spokesman said: "Neighbourhood officers work with university authorities in London and we would encourage anyone targeted in this way to seek help and support and where necessary use third party reporting facilities if they do not want to contact police directly."

Ramesh Kallidai, of the Hindu Forum of Britain, said: "Some girls are petrified because they are constantly being phoned up, having their door knocked.

"One girl was beaten up on the street and others have been forced to leave university."

    • Met police chiefs are to review a controversial stop-and-search power used in the fight against terrorism. Assistant commissioner Andy Hayman, the overall head of Britain's anti-terrorist operations, said he had concerns about the number of stops carried out in London using Section 44 legislation.

Religion is an entire private policy and no on can interface in it.I don't think if someone force others to join there religion can be done.I think religion is a think which must be kept in his mind and not through his activities............ !

The law already protects people from being forced to do anything.

Laws even cover threat and fear and it doesn't even need to be about religion. Any man who threaten or attack a woman can be charged as it should be.

The other question is that if anyone even knows if this story is true or not. I tried to find more information on the net but everything goes back to the same text and another text about a girl in Pakistan. Does anyone in England knows about a case when some one has been charged and the detail of what has happened?

The daily mail newspaper is a conservative/right wing paper. They are always keen to tell its readers how non-white, non-christian people are ruining the country

I know that and that is the reason I asked about an actual case. There are couple of points in the whole story that I am not comfortable with.

1)"The Hindu Forum of Britain claims", there is no mystery that Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims don't like each other and they regularly kill each other in India. A Hindu girl who even voluntarily marries a Muslim man will bring shame to her family and can be killed by her own family. In light of cultural and religious differences, I do not consider them as reliable source.

    2) Sikh and Hindus are not very open minded about women either and in Vancouver we have more problem with Sikh man who have killed their wife (4-5 in the last 6 months) than Muslim man.

    3) The quote from police chief is changed in the article. He only said that if there is such a problem then they should contact the police while the article changed it to that they are dealing with this problem at present time without any concrete evidence.

    4) The article mentions: "hundreds of mostly Sikh and Hindu girls have been intimidated by Muslim men who take them out on dates before terrorizing them until they convert. "

In Islam open relation between men and women before marriage are forbidden and there is no such thing as dating, so if these men are really fanatic Muslims, how did they take these girls out for a date?

Those are the reasons that I am interested to hear about a real case in order to be sure that this is not a typical fight among Sikh, Hindu and Muslims.

In any case, threat, intimidation and violence against anyone is not acceptable in a modern society and the police should deal with those who break the law independent of their motives.

You dare to question the veracity of Daily Mail reporters?! *gasp*

Are you suggesting logic along the lines of "Islam says open relation forbidden" and "Daily Mail claims kids are dating" therefore "question truth of Daily Mail" ?

There are probably as many interpretations of Islam as there are Muslims. For example, some seem to think it is quite legitimate to saw the heads off journalists, or fly planes in to buildings in the name of Islam. Others, thankfully in the majority, see those acts as utterly reprehensible.

In my experience, younger fanatics take that traditional hard line in the face of their elders, but see what they can get away with when that face is looking elsewhere.

Your link is just the reprint of the first article, there is no more details or new information in it. I searched on the net and found even a similar story in Pakistan. I am interested to know the truth, how about you?

Muslims do date. Maybe not in Iran or Iraq, but they do in the UK.

I have seen a BBC documentary or news peice about young people being intimidated or pressured into changing faiths. If I remember correctly it usually happened in areas where Sikhs and Muslims cohabit and is done by sleazy 'thug' type teenagers who are not really interested in religion but interested in girls and gangs.

People call themselves muslim or sikh because they were brought up that way. Some choose to follow their religion and some choose not to, but they still call themselves a muslim or a sikh even if they don't actually believe in god.

As far as 'honour' killings go, I think the figure is like 100 suspected killings over the last 10 years. According to the London police it is mostly Arabic and East European victims.

I was brought up in the UK as a sikh and had many sikh and muslim friends so I am only talking from my experiences/knowledge. I hope you found something usefull :)
