I play poker for a long time (3 or 4 years) :) I play more for fun when I play in reality, but when I play online I go for money. There are times when I win a lot of money and times when..... you understand :D

So please vote and say your opinion...
Because I believe that long-run and short-run exists in poker and I do not believe in luck at all... It does not exist in life

It's all about skills. Well, you may be lucky when you have nuts, but in all other situacions that's pure tallent of reading cards and bluffing. I play poker for more than a year which isn't very much and mainly on the net, and i experienced those things already by myself. So..

I would have to say a mixture of both. If you aren't good at poker or do not know how to play it, I don't think you can solely rely on luck for winning :p

its game of both but mostly of skills.

its luck when the cards are first dealed.

but once you got the cards and about to start, its like water in your palm and now you can use skill to get the best out for winning

    It's both.
If you are skillfull and you are on a lucky day, you'll win.
If you are skillfull and you are on a badluck day, maybe you will not win but you will not lose everything either.

    it's both luck and skill.

PS: don't play poker when you're drunk!

The real question is, does knowledge = skill?

I think there are certain tips and tricks you can do to give yourself the advantage. Heck, even your position at the table makes a difference in some games. If knowledge does not equate to skill, then I would say no, the game lacks any skill factor.

Certainly luck is a huge portion of the game.

Over the long haul it's almost entirely skill but in smaller samples there's a lot of luck involved.

Its about both luck and skill. Even if you have a good day, you can loose to a master ;) And these days, its definitely more of a skill.

We people here normally play 3 cards and very often play poker.I believe both luck and skill are necessary.

Both are required. However when you run out of luck you will need all your skills.

Don't forget the fact that there are many different games, and that the ratio of luck to skill needed in order to be succesful is different for each one. ;)

If you see the top players in WPT, the same names keeps comming up in the top positions every year, so it cant be pure luck....

    Luck = Preparation + Opportunity

Hold'em reminds me of the old Othello tagline, "a minute to learn, a lifetime to master"
