Poison Links - how do I find them in my backlinks?

Was recently having a chat with an SEO about 'poison links' that can damage your site.

I've manually looked through my sites backlinks and nothing looks amiss....other than some paid directory links.

How do I know if any of these are 'poisonous' links that are hurting my rankings and trust?

    Thanks

    poison links?
the real poison is to find who do you link to. if webmasters could hurt one another by linking from crappy sites no one would reach the 1st page on G. :)

don't spend your time on this, just make sure you link to quality sites, and try as best as you can to find high quality links back.

    travelsite is right.

Just remember do not get backlinks from bad neighborhood sites. Avoid random web directory submissions and useless commenting on excessively spammed blogs.

There is no poison links. IF SO i would use them and create a penalty for competitors. Do not waste your time.

My websites are attacked by one of my competitors, my websites dropped from my main keywords.
I don't know how they did it, but I do hear an uncomplete story about their action. Is there someone can tell me how they can achieve that effect?

Do not worry about links from unfriendly sites. Google do not take them into account for your rankings nor hurt them. On these situations, you have no control of who is linking to you. This was discussed on chat conference with Google engineers.
