Pointless links from pointless blogs

I want to ask you all a question about something; I have several wordpress blogs and I've them set to pingback, just to let me know when someone links to me.

Now usually getting a backlink, no matter how trivial, is always a good thing, but the amount of backlinks I get from pointless blogs - or, at the very least, appear to be pointless blogs - I would like think of myself as being fairly SEO-savvy, but I just can't, for the life of me, figure out what purpose, if any, these "ghost-blogs" serve.

As far as I can tell they're just set up in WP to regurgitate random blog posts trawled from Technorati. But they're not even monitised or anything, they all have zero page rank (Google can obviously tell it's duplicate content and see these sorts of blogs a mile off) and the majority are just set up with the default kubrick theme.

What I'm curious about, basically, is what do people gain from having these types of websites and why do people even bother setting these sites up in the first place? Is this the new thing in domain parking or some outdated blackhat SEO technique or what the hell is going on?

    Anyone care to enlighten me?

Useless blogs, thats what you think ;)

    Few considerations:
    - some of them are cloaked sites, they will handle only search engine traffic to serve their ads and displaying the default kubrick theme in case of typed-in traffic or harmless referal
    - having content is always better than having nothing at all: after all your useless blog will be crawled and its information stored somewhere else on the Internet: this creates entries and pointers to your site
    - regarding duplicate content, well I would say Google is not the only search engine, and it can be bypassed as well.it can be bypassed

    Just my little 1 cent.

    Cheers.

I was wondering the same thing, I could post a "hello world" type post and someone will give me a link back in 2-3 minutes.
