    Hi There,

Has anyone here had success writing/selling poetry? I have not written much, as I don't really have a market for it, although I think the ones I've done are good. Would be interested to hear any experiences (pm if you don't want to post publicly etc).

    Regards

Try going with magazines. Travel magazines often buy poems to fill in space. Search within the filler markets and you should find people. There are people who build poem sites and do earn from there. You can also create greeting cards , e cards and even e chapbooks. There is a market but like any specific niche it's not an easy fine. :)

Try take part in poetry contests.
Also Magazines do pay for poems, good money to be made selling poems as greeting poems,
Weddings, Christenings, Retirements potentially good markets for poetry.
SELL POEMS TO COMMERCIAL ORGANISATIONS etc.

You could always try some of your poetry with greeting card companies.

Well, I think you can try as a motto-writer... Sometimes poetry is important there.

The poets I know (including myself) do do it with a different kind of compensation in mind. Just getting the attention of fellow poets and interested people, well we're grateful for just that much 'pay.' However, to answer your question more directly, you can research for instance Rod McKuen who has in his time made quite a bit I believe from his poetic efforts.

I remember hearing a lecturer at Salford University (UK), speaking with vague pride of a former student of theirs, a 'millionaire poet.' I don't know the name of this latter person but for all I know you might be onto something. Good luck.
