Hey i am new to DP
i hardly made 1-2 posts by now
till now i am just silently reading all stuff here.

i heard a gossip here that if anyone sends more than 10 PMs a day. he"ll be banned for PM spam for one month or so.

    Please clarify.
as it is said if we are interested in any offer we have to take PM route instead of bumping thread for small talks.
if on any particular day i got interested in more than 15 threads, then i will be banned or infractioned
what is maximum threshold for PM spam for a day?
how can you delineate whether sent PMs are genuine or spam(its PRIVATE i suppose)

I don't know who told you that, but it certainly sounds wrong to me. You might be spamming if you PMd 10 people with the same message, but not if you made legitimate inquiries to people holding sales threads. Keep in mind though, if you PM them details that don't fit the requirements in their thread, it's unsolicited, and you'll get a 5 point spamming infraction if they report it to us. In other words, if someone says they want to buy links from music sites, and you PM them to see if they're also interested in your movie or TV sites, you're spamming them.

I don't know. Maybe there's a limit to how many you can send in order to stop spammers from PMing too many people before we catch them (honestly don't recall). But even if that were the case you wouldn't get banned for sending 10 PMs as long as they're valid questions and such. Only if you're actually spamming. :)

Users can report your PM as spam. If it looks like spam, and someone reports it as spam, we will look into whether or not you are spamming people or not and deal with it as necessary. A good rule of thumb is if you are copy/pasting PMs, you are probably spamming.

What if many Buyers have the same Query? (like URL of a website for sale) We should personalize each message?

If you think someone is going to report you for spamming, probably, yes. :)

I think it is always a good practice to reference thread URL whenever you reply to a member if it is in regard to a thread in buy, sell, trade.

Yep, I frequently get some random pms like "what's the url?", or "send me stats".. For what?
Some people probably think they are just naturally obvious and don't ever have the need to explain anything :D

Yeah, those ones annoy me, when people just *assume* that you know what they're referring to. & You have to take a minute to figure it out yourself. Waste of time..

Maybe putting the same restrictions on pm that exist for BST would be a good idea. I'm torn on having it so but I did want to throw it out as a suggestion.

It's been suggested numerous times before, and we had a big list of reasons for not doing it (don't have time to find that thread at the moment though - thought it was in my bookmarks ).

That's fine as I just wanted to suggest it. Most of the pm spam I get is from new users with zero posts. But like you said, there's a lot of reasons against it. Like sending a pm to someone selling something in BST.
