    What about this:

If a seller has a site for sell and doesn't display the url,
-instead of 50 or so different interested people replying "PM me the URL"
-the 50 or so interested should PM the seller directly! This way the seller's box will fill up with the replies and will think twice before not disclosing the url.

Just like when there is an offer for free directory submission to a site owners directory, you aren't suppose to reply, "submitted" to build up their post count. See link below.

Perhaps a Mod can sticky a rule like this???

Threads where ya have to PM for the address is like fingernails on a chalk board.

I'm seriously considering crashing/hijacking threads I see like this. Takes every ounce of restraint I have to not do it...

Some sellers just don't want to disclose the URL for everyone to see only to the interested buyers, if you're actually interested on buying the website you'll send them a PM or ask for the URL no matter how annoying it is.

I hate it too but I personallly have nothing against it and I understand why some people do it.

Hell we have a proven thief/scammer here in this link and reported the post to alert Admin but nothing has been done....Read through the whole thread and check this stuff out. Everyone should give this guy massive RED since nothing has happened to him.

DP needs 2 Mods just to filter out all the BS in the For Sale Area alone.

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=147413

And the PM for URL makes it sound fishy from the start when I see threads like that also...I say do away with it and enforce it.

PM me the URL please. :p
And, the stats as well. ;)

Only one case where I understand that its essential to hide the URL is if you are selling a site which is DMOZ listed and that's the selling point of the site.

I have lost DMOZ listing once by listing URL publicly.

Most webmasters here don't really want to expose their sites. We'ere here to make more money, not get leeched and have ideas stolen off...

hitzatak, so if someone wants to "leech" you he won't take the trouble to ask for the URL by PM?

So, now you annoy the guy who is going to "leech" you anyway? How stupid is that? Do you also swear at waiters serving you and call the MacEmployee a fool just before he secretly p*sses in your coke? ;)

Hiding the URL serves no useful purpose if you're going to give it to anybody who PMs you.

What justification is there for sellers doing this? It's a magnet for scammers and fraud.

So you don't want to show everyone your site, just "interested buyers"? Ok, how do you know only interested buyers will PM? Anyone can PM just to see the URL. I'm not seeing the need to conceal a site, nor do I see how PMs will really ensure that ONLY interested buyers inquire.

SitePoint insists on a URL, don't they?

Yes. So what? Some people don't want their sites to be made public.

I can tell you right now that many people will only do business w/ people who have established reputations here at DP. So not everyone posting, "PM url please" is getting a PM w/ the URL.

    There's your solution. :D

I just wish people would follow the rules that are already in-place here at DP.

You know, like NO MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS and NO BUMPING SALES THREADS.

I agree with a lot that was said in this thread. I don't see any reason other than being shady for the OP to avoid disclosing their URL in the thread. If you are going to PM it to everyone anyway, than why not post it on the public forums?

I must admit I'm guilty of the "Submitted, thank you!". I saw everyone else doing it and thought it was common courtesy to let them know you've submitted your URL and let the others on the board know of your experience with them. I never even saw that sticky...
