Doing it yourself uniquely is the best possible solution. If you can't be bothered, then you may as well quit now. Copying others categories and not filling them properly is just a waste of webspace.

What do you want to do yourself? the quick way or the slower way? :)

Adding categories is easy, i dont think you have mentioned your script of choice but i really do advise to add each directory category individually.

    I rest my peace.

What exactly do you hope to achieve with a copycat directory?

Can i make a suggestion my friend :) a quick search, which i can happily do for you in google if you tell me what script you use, will find you a category dump (ready made category structure) but its mildly worrying that a new directory has an owner not even willing to find the category dump themselves.

As i say, let me know the script, what version and you will quickly have a cat dump.

Build the categories by hand based on the submissions you recieve with keyword blending and unique introductions to each category. If you don´t want to do this then simply copy whatever you like the look of and enjoy having a crap directory.

    Please see http://www.google.com/search?client...n&q=phpld+v2+category+dump&btnG=Google+Search

What you are looking for is a category dump.

I dont recommend using one, but your free to do as you please.:)

Just be aware that some problems that you can encounter with a category dump include:

More or less duplicate looking directory, at least with category structure.

Categories disappearing (a hide and seek game) not a time saver :)

Useless, unused categories within the dump.

A free script, too lazy to do your own category structure; your truly on the road to success and financial freedom.

Why not just scrape DMOZ and be done with it? It would be about as effective as what you plan on doing.

You are exactly why Google dislikes directories.

When you try to sell this masterpiece, hopefully prospective buyers will find this thread first and truly understand what you are offering for sale.

Unfortunately, I think that this is a result of all the garbage that is being offered online and on infomercials. "Make a million overnight, no effort required, work part-time and make a 6 figure salary, etc, etc, etc."

Jakki, listen to these folks! If your not attempting to make something that is of value, then you are wasting the time of everybody; including your own.

yeah, you need to create the categories one by one for an unique category structure.,
don't suggest to use any category dump.

As the others have echoed, hard work is necessary to build a successful directory.
