Dells will break easily. I'm not sure about Lenovo (though thinkpads are excellent in build quality, made by the same company, and some are rather sleek and stylish now!), but I know their customer service in the US is subpar to Dell. Just get a good warranty with Dell and they'll take good care of the computer, even give you an upgraded new one if you seem to get a lemon. but again, this is the US Dell, it may be different internationally.

Not sure which one to advise you to get. I think you probably get more bang for your buck on Lenovo. What made you narrow your choices down to these two brands, if I may ask?

I shortlisted these laptops on the basis of availability in India, Specs, i5 processor and 1GB graphic card and of course price.

Take any Dell Studio 15! That would be the best choice.
It works well even when used in harsh conditions.

My brother just bought a Sony Vaio. Believe me, go for it. It's amazing. And it is also amazing the things you hear about Sony's notebooks. They hardly cash and deliver what you need.

I will suggest that you even should consider portability of these laptops if your plan to travel a lot with it. Buying 15 inches starts feeling heavy after some time and dont feel like carrying them around too much. These days, almost all the laptops give a good deal for the bucks. Then it finally depends on what are you buying it for? Just regular use or you intend to use it professionally for programming or graphic related stuff.
