guys i've just put http://plumberfinder.co.uk online...its a business directory for plumbers in the uk. please check it out and tell me what you think. of course its under construction so there will be big changes coming about... how do you thnk i should market it? do you have any specific recommendations on the business model?
i would change the green links on the left, to a more neutral, gradient colour to match the rest of the site. to market, get paper ads, and SEO to appear in the SERPS, also, use standard ppc advertising for quick results.
Yes I completely agree, the problem with green is its a colour most peple love or hate, I would suggest keeping with a blue and probably drop the colour change wen the cursor moves over it. As for promoting, I would suggest looking for plumbing directories on the net, or yellow pages, thomson local, and call/email as many as possible to get them on your site. try something like this, http://www.matren.co.uk/plumbers.htm I think it would also be very useful to add more content to your site, FAQ's etc. hope it goes well... - I'll certinly check you out if I need a plumber!
Another idea.. not sure how much traffic this will generate, but you could try posting a press release on http://www.submitpressrelease.co.uk/
Advertise using Adwords, although some people would agree it is costly, you would be getting targeted traffic to the site.
since the URL plumberfinder.co.uk has its obvious SEO as well as unique marketing advantages, i was thinking of a free information-cum-directory website model relying on enormous amounts of traffic to generate ad revenue. now i have competitors in plumbingregister.com and a few others. however, i feel the name plumberfinder is unique and is especially pertinent to the uk, which may be the country with the highest demand for, as well as a perpetual shortage of very good plumbers. of course a lot of research is needed into the nuances of the plumbing industry...i guess this is a classic case of a very good domain name but a less than articulate business plan.
