Plugin upload help for all in one seo pack

    Hello all,

I just started a new blog and I am installing the all in one seo pack. I am using cpanel to upload into the wp-content/plugins directory. In the short installation instructions on wp.com uberdose says to make sure you upload the top level folder and don't just upload all the php files. What I did(I don't think this is correct) was I clicked upload in my cpanel and it took me to the browse function, which I clicked, and then the file upload window opens that says look in: with a search bar here, and then there is the box that has all the files. So, I looked on my desktop for the unzipped all in one seo folder and opened it in the file upload box. At this stage there is the all in seo folder in the look in: search bar, and then all the files in the white box of the file upload window. From here I just clicked on the first file out of all of them that has a white page icon with a blue sphere on it that says: all_in_one_seo_pack and I uploaded it into my cpanel upload files area. This did put the all in one seo plug in in my wordpress plug ins area, however, I believe that I only uploaded a piece of the plug in by simply choosing the first file out of the 20 or so there because I thought it was the main file.

In my cpanel in the wordpress-content/plugins folder right now there is a little icon piece of paper that has php over it and the file name is all_in_one_seo_pack.php and its size is 60kb the file type is application/x-httpd-php. I think this is only a part of it and not the entire plug in.

So, my question is how do I upload the plug in in its entirety, and how should I go about removing the plug in files that were uploaded into my wordpress if I performed the upload in the wrong manner, as stated above. Any suggestions much appreciated, thanks.

I think I can just upload with my cpanel upload function........ or are you saying that the only way to upload the top level folder is to use ftp.?

I'm not familiar with cpanel. I use FTP for all my site related tasks.

Upload the whole all-in-one-seo-pack folder into the plugins directory. Usually in Cpanel you can only upload one or a few files at a time. Thats fine for plugins that are only one file and go directly into the plugins directory. But not best for some plugins that have multiple files associated with them and are like a directory (folder) within the plugins directory.

As others have said, get a program like Smart FTP or Bulletproof FTP and then just upload the entire directory.

I have Filezilla. So I want to highlight all the files for the all in seo plugin and drop them in my wp/plugin directory which (I am assuming) is represented by a blank beige folder with two dots after it? Below this beige folder is the akismet folder and the hello.php icon.

Do these plug ins work retroactively?

Is the all in seo plugin an entire folder? If so, you want to upload the folder, not just the files. But yes, it should work retroactively.

The AIOSEO is its own complete folder on my desktop, but when I open it in filezilla it breaks out the top level folder into all the files. Thats my problem, Iam not quite sure how to capture the entire file to upload it. It sounds like I have to get the whole folder selected and drag it, but I can only select all the files in the folders.

I know it's really easy to upload an entire folder in smart ftp and bulletproof ftp (those are the only two I've used). Maybe check one of them out? I've never used filezilla, sorry.

ok, thanks for the help. So, if I just upload all the files without capturing the top level folder will that work or probably not? Thanks again.

you could just create a folder with the same name and upload all the files there. I've never looked at the plugin, but you probably have to have it in the right folder for it to function.
