You can try overclocking :) it's risky if you don't know what you're doing, search for tutorials

to increase the Ram would be a really good idea, or maybe you just need to defragment your hard disk

As everyone suggested, a new stick of RAM would definitely be helpful. And they're pretty easy/cheap to get, these days.

Increase your RAM to 1GB minimum. Upgrade XP to SP2 and try not to install unnecessary software.

Increase ram (add another 256 mb or 512 mb if possible).
Then run System Mechanic (you can download trial) and perform a system scan + fix ;)
This will make your PC a bit faster.

    Defragment your Hard Disk
    Remove any unnecessary Software
Scan for viruses & spyware if you've noticed a recent drop in performance.
    Upgrade your RAM to 1-2GB
If your video card is dated, upgrade it (will improve gaming and graphical editing performance greatly)

Optimize your memory by uninstalling softwares that are unnecessary and that consumes a lot of memory and scan your pc with anti-virus or installed some Kaspersky is a great one...

    Hope that helps....:D

Right click on tyour my computer icon
    Go to advanced tab
    Then click performance
Choose your own options for performance. Never let Windows manage your performance. Its just not right.
    Hope this helps

Install 1GB of RAM and WinXP SP2.
It will be more than enough to work comfortably.
