Hi, I own a store in Sri Lanka that sells glassware and crystalware. I would like to develop a shopping website for my products, that looks and feels like www.crateandbarrel.com. They also sell glassware and the way in which it is is laid out is just beautiful. Ideally I would like to replicate it. Could someone suggest a good shopping cart application that I could use to develop a website with the same capabilities as crate and barrel. It will be hosted on my server. I have my inventory database running on Filemaker Pro. Can shopping carts link to or make use of the database so that the stock availability of each item is displayed on the web page? I also need to be able to add new items regularly without too much hassle. Thank you.
OSCommerce is a free and open source shopping cart, but it uses MySQL for the database. I think you'd find it hard to get something that would tie in to Filemaker Pro.
If you’re planning to put up a shopping cart for your products or services, one of the first things you have to consider is finding the best e-commerce Platform, which will easily give you good storefront. The most important thing is making online transactions work, if customers have problem with your transactions they will not be satisfied might not visit your site next time. Content Management is also a feature which should be there. And as far as my choice is concern i recommend you vplanetcommerce which i think is the best ecommerce platform with best SEO which will attract more customers to your store. vplanetcommerce provide SaaS based e-commerce and ERP solutions based on vPlanet Commerce product.
we usually recommend our customers to have a look at magento. this platform is rapidly growing now http://blog.aheadworks.com/2011/07/who-is-leading-among-the-ecommerce-platforms-now/
I agree with AheadWorks, Magento would be my choice as well and I would strongly vote against OSCommerce at this point (it had its time, but no longer IMHO). Regarding the FileMaker pro integration, while you probably will not find an app that will directly work with FileMaker Pro, you for sure can find developer (like the Aheadworks guys for example) that would be able to write some kind of Synchronization or at least import tool for you that will sync/import/export your FileMaker DB into Magento.
Hi Friend, Thats a great idea starting an ecommerce business online, High revenue earning platform. I would like to suggest 3 things for ecommerce as my experience will help you. 1. If you are planning to buy a ecommerce script, then AJ Shopping Cart Software ,will be the right choice with plenty of user friendly facilities. 2. If you worry about hosting issue, you can get Zscart - SaaS Ecommerce solution with easy monthly payment option and free trial too. you can make your shop with in five minutes. 3. If you are looking for free source means, Zeuscart will be right choice. Highly downloaded open source script online. Good luck ...Choose one for successful ecommerce business.
If you need a lightweight system, I recommend inFocus. It's available as a CMS, or an overlay for WordPress. You can migrate FMP to MySQL, so I wouldn't let that deter you from using a solution that uses SQL in any event. Frank
