Its a good start but the black background is not good for a food site. I'd go with a softer color!

 

Yea, the black background with your very thin weight text is hard to read for any extended period of time.

I'd shoot for pictures of every recipe if you can.

 

You are using a default template, it would be better to get a more original template.
It would be best if you could get your own domain name and get a premium
wordpress theme. I also agree with the previous posters I think you should change
the black background.
