I agree with bnandika and volusion that you need a white background and a description. White is more professional and money-making blogs are supposed to be more professional looking. As for the hosting, if you want to save money you can buy a domain name and have blogger host your blog for free. You need to first register the name then change your blogger settings. I paid nothing but the $6 for my domain
Blogspot blogs are fine for personal or family blogs, but if you want to have a professional looking blog, or if you want to be taken seriously and make money with your blog, you should pay the few bucks per month to host your own blog.
