Hello We have just finished building a image viewing site which grabs content from Reddit and displays the content in a format where it's easier to navigate through. The site is completely responsive so you can navigate on both mobile and desktop. Please review and provide any comments that you might have. Also if you have any suggestions with regards to promotions that would be great as well. URL: Funny pictures spikedpic.com Thanks
Love it! I actually just spent twenty minutes looking through it. I am pretty sure it's going to be a hit. But... You may run into legal issues with reddit if you're not authorized to use their images. In their user agreement (http://www.reddit.com/wiki/useragreement) it says: reddit content ...We grant you the right to access the reddit content in the manner described in this agreement. You may not otherwise make unauthorized commercial use of, reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, perform, or publicly display reddit content, except as permitted by the doctrine of fair use or as authorized in writing by us. If you are interested in licensing reddit content, contact us at . Before you leave the beta version, it will be advisable to contact them and license the use of their content.
Thanks very much for your kind words and also for the information about the copyright. I had read this info before but I thought it only applies to when you’re trying to use for commercial use. I had noticed that a lot of other 3rd party sites pick up content from reddit and display on mobile apps and websites as well. But I will definitely look into this some more..
I can't tell you exactly what that paragraph should be interpreted like, but the commercial use is just one of many other ways their content should not be used without authorization. It's one thing to make a reference to reddit or use an excerpt from a post or to use an image as point of reference to reddit, it is another thing to build a website based solely on the reddit's content (images). The ...or publicly display reddit content... can be a real issue with you. But maybe not. I am just guessing.
Hmm thanks for looking into this. I think I'm going to email them to get more information. Let's see what they say.
