Pls help! Did weight calculation change?

Discussion in 'Co-op Advertising Network' started by CalBoy, Mar 29, 2005.

I have a website that has 2,840 indexed pages by DP keywords/API (and 11,800 pages by site:website).

I had a weight of 13000 but now drops down to 2880. But pages indexed (by API) and PR are not changed. So what can cause the drop if weight calculation isbased on pages indexed and PR??

And the weight of 2880 based on 2840 index pages seem to be low, does it?

    Please help

Did you read the FAQ? Specifically the huge section on weight changes?

I did check the FAQ and searched the forum but I dont get the anwser.

Basically, weight = function(PR, pages indexed based API, # of ads)

None of these changed but my weight dropped from 13500 to 2880.

Did you check the number of pages displayed when u use a API tool?
Its the number of pages displayed by the api tool times pagerank times some other factors that makes up your weight. Reason: duplicate content, fluctuations algos, etc

He stated in the first post that he did (used the DP keyword checker)

The last piece of advice found in the API said to wait a few days, continue revalidating/checking weight and it will usually go back up. The other variable is that the PR of your page has changed, but you wouldn't know it via the toolbar.

First of all, I use DP keyword tracking for PR and pages indexed so the numebr are all from google APIs.

I also read all the FAQ and searched DP forum about weight drop. But I dont see a good explanation. PR, pages indexed and number of ads have not changed but weight dropped.

After spending a lot of time thinking, I am speculating one of the following possibilities:

    1) Data center effect. Google has many data centers that return different results. I understand that there several servers for co-op validation. Would it be possible that co-op server and DP keyward tracking see different results of their API queries??

    2) Google API returns different results for mydomain.com and mydomain.com/
My website has 2840 indexed page for mydomain.com and 377 pages for mydomain.com/. It may be that co-op is using mydomain.com/.

However, I experimented with the base URL in co-op with mydomain.com and mydomain.com/, the weight does not change. So co-op weight calculation does not use google API as it is.

I am experiencing the same problem, but nothing changed until I installed the new ad_network_215.php file. My weight went from 54,000 to 24,000 and is now at 8,000. My PR, Pages in URL and backlinks in the DP Keyword tool have all remained at the same since before the change. Hope it's just an API fluke. If it is, how does Google expect us to use an API that produces wildy different results all the time? Well, I guess it's still "Beta", but I usually expect more from Google products in Beta.

I'm sure it was coincidence but my normally steady weight dropped in half (despite hitting revalidate many times) after putting on the new code yesterday. I was happy to see it return to the accurate amount today though when I revalidated again.

I think the API is just really tempremental recently.

yea i'm experiencing the same thing. One of my websites has 14,000+ pages indexed in Google and a PR4. I used to get 54k in weight from it (max for PR4), but now its at 40.9k .... nothing has changed numbers are based upon api results, so i wonder whats going on....

I experienced the same thing as soon as I updated the coop files.

According to the DP backlink tool, I have 16,800 pages indexed on a pr 5 site running 5 ads.

My weight was 67,500 almost since the beginning of the coop. Now, it's 38,160

If the coop uses the same data as the DP backlink tool, and
    If the forumula is:
weight = function(PR, pages indexed based API, # of ads)

Then I should be at the cap of 67,500.

Why am I down so far on this site?

same scary experience here. After having a long stretch of around 46k weight, I suddenly dropped this week to 21k-25k range. Page rank hasnt changed, google pages have went up a little.

The first time I can get the revalidate to put me at my old number, I aint touching it again either. :)

I also noticed a small drop but just a couple of thousand points or so -- nothing like the drastic changes others are reporting here.

Just because thats what it says on the screen that may not be right, wouldn't the weight be what ever it should be behind the screen, if you can see what I am getting at :D

My weight finally went to an all time high when I revalidated tonight and I ain't touching it either :) although I suspect it's not really that high in reality.
