PLR and copyright.

Basically, I bought a huge PLR package here on DP a few months ago. I'm now considering using some of the websites included in this package, though I'm now facing the question - How do I know the seller didn't steal the product? Will I be able to get in trouble if I use it?

    Thanks,
    Adam.

Well the first thing I hope you did was save all the relevant correspondence with the purchase. This way you can show that it was purchased in good faith as PLR. In case a problem arises you can help with tracking down the real perpetrator.

The next thing you can do to investigate is to run some of the pages you want to use through CopyScape to see how many places online are already carrying what you want to use. If it is only one place, you can contact them to let them know their content has been used illegally.

If it is already on a dozen websites you can be pretty sure it is PLR. If so, you may want to rewrite it enough to make it register as unique before filling your domain with overused duplicate content.

Hope this helps, and good luck on your ventures.

I think you are right to be concerned, because there are, unfortunately, people who buy PLR and then resell it without having obtained (or paying for) the resale rights. The cheaper the content (5 Gb of articles on every topic for $1!!!) the more likely that's true.

As the Patrician says, Copyscape can give you some information about who else is using the content. The problem is that finding other sites using the content legally doesn't automatically mean that it would be legal for you to use the content. There also should be information in the package as to who the original content creator is (or are). You can contact that person and ask if they sold their PLR with Master Resale Rights.

Thanks a bunch. The content seems to be from multiple vendors. I'm currently e-mailing the most reliable one - Though I purchased a 'massive' package, starting to doubt it being legal content. Will update when a reply's given.

Sorry for the double post, though I've encountered another issue.
I'm sure most of you have heard about the "195 adsense websites"-package. Those were included in the product I bought, and unfortunately I haven't received any e-mail reply. I googled around a bit, finding those packages up for sale. If you added another ten USD you'd get master resale rights. Would this mean I'm safe if I use the adsense websites?

    Regards,
    Adam.
