Plesk server needs reformating. Require urgent help.

    Hello Ladies and Gents.
I am in an odd pickle and conundrum. One of those catch 22 situations!
    The facts are as these:

The plesk server which we run is constantly crashing and dying out once a day. The source of the problem is unknown. Originally it was believed to be memory because of the logs showing memory problems however after replacing the RAM the problems are still present. The Linux CentOS 4.4 Box now leaves me no choice, but to reformat because I have thrown at it enough spare parts to make a small rocket ship!

Now, for the question you have all been waiting for.
How can I ensure that the data is kept alive. The migration manager in Plesk is only for migrations not backups.

I am thinking of installing Plesk on another machine, migrate it off. Reformat and then migrate back.

Does anyone see any problems with this?

The only hitch is, I do not have multiple Plesk licences. Does this matter? Can I use my current licence to install it again on another machine? Also, I do not have another Linux server, so I was thinking of just installing is on a VMWare'd virtual machine.

    Thoughts?

I would very much appreciate any advice. This is being done on Wednesday or Thursday and I need to attack it with certainty seeing as this is an important box.

The only way you can do this, is to backup the data on a slave hard drive and format this hard drive or add another hard drive, make that primary by asking your host and do a OS load on that. After that, you can try rsync the data from the old hard drive which can be added as slave by your provider. Most likely, this would be the easiest and fastest way for you to do the migration.

    Hello,
Sorry, I should have said, I am my host.
I will be going to the data center to sort all of this. All the servers are owned servers in our rack.

In addition, the server has two hard drives in raid mirror.

Plesk uses a MySQL backend. Don't forget to do a proper database backup and not just the filesystem backups.

I think I am just going to set up a virtual server and do a migration. It makes the most sense!!

You can check whether it is the hardware that caused the problem..

If you don't mind, i can do a quick check for you.
