Today I received an email from my Plesk panel advising me that one of my domains was reaching its bandwidth allocation. Thats odd thinks I, I set the limits insanely high. So I logged on to check the status of the domain. Apparently, so far this month 60tb of data has been logged. Now this is all a bit odd, this site is a "typical" forum and for the last 3 years averages around 80 to 90 gb per month. So I would have noticed, in Google Analytics, if there was a genuine jump in traffic from 80gb to 60tb. So I am at a loss to explain this. It is also worth mentioning that this site is the only site running on a dedicated server. After calling the host they can see no reason for the spike and have said that if the server had been comprised and was participating in botnet/ddos they would have picked it up and called me. To me this looks like a reporting glitch in Plesk. Anybody got any ideas?
Are you on a 100mbit port? It would be near impossible to transfer 60TB on a 100mbit port. Also, if your using linux I like the iptraf tool. It shows you real time traffic of each network card (requires root obviously)
