I thought some of you may like to take a look at it.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/13/business/13digi.html?ref=business

I apologize if this has already been done.

I would love to have popular site where people build the content for you and does not require much, if any input. Good community sites are hard to build though.

PlentyPffFish spends huge amount on advertising though.

He has 50,000 images coming in everyday (I find that hard to believe considering his member base is 600,000). Luckily, volunteers on the site sift them through so he has no cost in that regard, according to the article.

Thats what I thougt too. I also don't believe the stats to be honest. The writer uses the phrase "that sounds about right". It would be beter to do some real research.

Forget about facts and research. It's a New York Times article. You would think that the writer would at least ask for some proof.

I also find it hard to believe that the guy pulls in that much in ad revenues from the site. It does, however, make for a great viral marketing article that will likely drive millions of visitors to his site AND create thousands of new competitors.

I have no doubts that he rakes in 10 million. Its dating and its FREE, prolly the 2 most important thing people look for online. Who wont prefer a free website over CC paid dating account?

90% people don't care about look and feel. They are there to find a date, not to look at your website design.
the site is fast, easy to load. No fancy CSS.

Does anyone know what sort of EPC he is deriving from the website?
I'm certain that this is a significant contributor to this higher earnings.

Read carefully; most rev is from affiliates, which is my experience too on highly focused, high traffic sites. Have one of the most popular sites about subject X, put books, dvds, services, etc about X and you'll rake it in.
