Please vote on my design - light or dark?

Howdy DP'ers. I'm looking for a little feedback on my site. I just came up with an alternative style which gives users the option of choosing a light theme or a dark theme.

If you could go check it out at www.subnixus.com you will see a "lights on" and "lights off" link on the right side of the site. View them both if you could and then vote for one. You don't even have to post in this thread if you don't feel the need. So this is the easiest review ever.

I really need to know what people enjoy more. The winner will probably become the default layout that people see if they have never been to the site before.

I like the Lights off better. The Lights on could be good, provided you use the right color combinatios.

 

I think you should make it blink on and off at an alarming rate while slipping some subliminal messaging into the transition... lol.. No personally I like the lights on. nice job!

 

it is good to have this type of design,but i think still u can improve it with different color combination.and that links are good but still some changes can improve the look of this design.

 

Now that's the kind of idea I like to read. lol

So far (not just this poll), I haven't had anyone say that they didn't like the dark theme, but since most people see light backgrounds on the majority of sites they visit, they feel more comfortable with the white background. But it seems the white background is a little too boring for most people.

What a conundrum.

 

white may be quite boring but it depends on how you present your content. Make headings and keep the paragraph as short and precise as you can. people wouldn't like reading a very long paragraph.

 

I prefer the dark theme because I find it easier to read white on dark backgrounds rather than the other way around.

 

I like the Dark Theme.
Keep in mind that dark websites reminds hack/illegal sites.

I vote for the dark theme, also. The light theme is too insipid ... not enough contrast and interest. Go with the dark theme....

 

I usually like light/white pages, but the dark theme was really nice.

looks really nice reading compared to the light one.

 

For actual use, I prefer the Lights On scheme over the dark one. Just easier for me to read.

That said, the white scheme is a little on the boring side, kind of looks like every other site on the planet, know what I mean? The dark version is definately more unique. On my end, the 'daily dose...' header is a little too dark, doesn't stand out very well. That color could be brightened up a little, and the color for your links (throughout the content and the side sponsor links) as well. The sidebar sponsor links don't catch my eye very well, and the links on the dark background in the content blend in a little too much to be easily readable. For me, anyways.

 

Lights off is easier on the eyes.
