First of all you have to learn HTML....at least get to know the language. Use Adobe Dreamweaver to build your website. At first try out some free website creating services using the following links. Practice practice and practice that is all what it takes.

You can get nice free templates from oswd.org too. They make a good base to learn with an existing template.

Go to www.opensourcecms.com and check out their systems - you need to have a business plan in place first though so you know what your goals are what features you require.

you can also do its very simple like just download the templates which suits your theme in any of the website which offers free template. then just upload your content doing some small HTML codings and aligning it. you can use w3schools.com for guidance in uploading and alighning the content.

    hope this helps..

@ pown - just install Wordpress and download a nice theme. Learning HTML isn't something you do overnight.

not sure if anyone mentioned, but if you would like to create a basic site just to get started, Microsoft Publisher is a great starter application. You can create a simple site and it requires no coding

Check out any of the resources people have given you in the past posts.

W3C is the official resource, and their tutorial, while dry, is comprehensive.

If the code is unfamiliar to you, consider hiring a tutor. Learning how to build your own websites can be a great experience.

Once you learn HTML (and the XHTML flavor of it) check out CSS and you're on you have all you need to build a great site of your own!
