I am a graphic design student but I have completed some freelance projects as well as many school projects. I have hosted my portfolio in the past but I decided it was time to redo it. My objective was to keep it simple and sharp. I will likely make it a three-five page portfolio. The home page will feature nine images and will serve as a preview for the portfolio part of the site. I figured I would keep it user friendly and put the "meat and potatoes" on the front page. I didn't want any distracting graphical headers or any gimmicks that would detract from the actual graphic design work being presented. I will have a larger portfolio but I figured I would feature my favorite projects on the front. I would like to develop it so the black and white images turn to full color images as a roll over effect. I will be using jquery highslide for the presentation of the images but I am not sure how I will accomplish the roll over effect without using flash. Don't pay too much attention to the copy. I will be working on that a bit more. Thanks in advance for your time. (Please copy this link and paste it in your browser to view it. I am not able to link yet.) http://hindssite.com/simple.jpg -John-
Yep, not a bad first attempt, the site colour scheme is okay and is used well to give some highlights to the page. My main concern is that the site looks a little dated in design terms, the font selection and blocks of text along with border-esq straight lines. If that's your style then go all the way and make the site a statement of a deisng idea, otherwise modernise
Thanks for the input. I like the simple minimalist sort of color scheme but I am not satisfied with the typefaces. I will keep looking for a better combo of type. I do see what you mean by dated, it is not really my style but I am still trying to discover my style. It's been hard coming up with a design for my own site. Usually I can take another person's idea and run with it. This hasn't been the case with my own portfolio.
