Hi, I paid for 3 months of VPS hosting, and i cannot get my password back for my VPS. This is the reply to the support email. The VPS expires in 3 days time. Rob
There is only one way to do this: start over, I think - and get on the phone with these people. They owe you one and therefore may be willing to cut you a deal. But also check out if you can find another trusted VPS hosting-account somewhere else, so you have some negotiating room. People here may be able to advise you a trusted VPS-account that isn't too expensive. (do check the reputation of the people who offer stuff though)
Contact Server Origin, these people have to get their act together. It doesn't matter that the previous owner outsourced the material, they should plan to compensate you for any losses. If you do happen to be compensated for the 3 months of hosting, switch providers as the new owner doesn't seem to be taking the business serious. If he was serious, they would be more professional. In a business, your name isn't "mark" it's Mark, and most people have a last name.
If you just concerned about losing 3 months of hosting with a VPS, you are probably in good shape. Just talk with them and see if you can get some sort of deal or refund. If you have data on the VPS that you need, then things are a little more difficult. If you have stuff on the VPS that you need, that implies that you had the password at one time. I would check through every possible place that it might have been cached. For example if they sent it to you on email, maybe it is in a deleted items folder, on a backup CD, in the sent items folder if you forwarded it to another account, etc. Also check and make sure you don't have anything cached in any of your web browsers that might let you in. Also if you have access to download the content I'd get it off as soon as possible. For example, if you have regular html files you can use something like wget to pull down the entire site to a local machine so you will at least not lose any data. Also if you know something about the password (length, whether or not you set it yourself, etc.) you might be able to run some type of cracking program to get access. For example if you know it was a series of 6 number, it is possible you could crack it just by trying every possible combination. Good luck.
