In fact, the first response is correct. All internal pages on the site will be back to square one. To the SE's a new URL is a new/different page.

I am intersted in how adding -123 might solve any security concerns. I suspect it won't.

Magda and Willybfriendly are both correct... Sorry Wordpress Expert... But what you have said is incorrect. If Infograb does not 301 redirect every old URL to the equivalent new URL then the new URL will start over from scratch trying to rank with zero inbound links...

By 301 redirecting requests for http://www.site.com/keyword.html to http://www.site.com/keyword-123.html, the search engines will transfer credit for inbound links to http://www.site.com/keyword.html to http://www.site.com/keyword-123.html.

I just answered basically this same question on another post about changing page names:

Great advice there magda. Infact, almost anything regarding google can be found in google webmaster tool.

I think if you do a proper 301 redirect and go slowly with few pages at a time then it wont create any problem.

But still i think the earlier url will be better at any given day. So what i would say is if its possible to avoid this change its great.... but if its inevitable then you may go for it.

    Thanks.

Use 301 redirection, I am not sure about backlink but yes you will not loose your ranking on google.

301 permanent redirect. However I think you will lose the backlinks....
