Hi all I want to make a website where different shops can make profiles and then advertise their products. They would need to be searchable and divided in categories by place of origin, by product type ... Later users can register and after buying products, they can rate seller. Maybe similar to amazon or ebay, but lot simpler and smaller. Or like booking dot com, but not for hotels. Any idea what would be the best CMS and where to start to study. I did Wordpress and Joomla by now. Thank you
I know wordpress would be the easiest way to do this as a start. However, if your planning to grow and get a lot of traffic, it may be a good idea to check out Drupal. They are pretty powerful and you will have a lot of flexibility when it comes to growing your website.
you can try "tomatocart" http://www.tomatocart.com/ it is best and free cms to make a website like amazon ,ebay ,even better than it
I have some input on WP, don't know how useful it will be but here goes......and please read my whole post before accusing me of attacking it. I have heard Wordpress has some security issues. Before anyone gets too excited, this is just what I have heard and I will explain. I hang out on IRC dev channels. I know not everything everyone says there is true but there were a couple of discussions of WP recently.... and the fact that a lot of hacked sites happened to be WP was mentioned -this may just be due to the fact that WP is very popular and is not itself a particularly insecure system... but even if this is the case, the fact that it is a popular target means there may be a lot of exploits running around(I guess maybe you could compare this to Windows). I have not used WP so I cannot claim to have an informed opinion, this is just what I have heard and my opinion of that. So maybe you will want to research this before choosing a CMS. I think security should be an important factor deciding a CMS. If anyone has any comments about this either way I would be happy to hear. I have tried to be neutral and objective about this issue and I hope it shows.
In so much as anything else has security issues from time to time, sure. There have been a few conversations about this in the e-commerce board the last few days so I will route you there rather than repeat myself. https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/ecommerce-multi-vendor-script-advice.2680567/ This is not too entirely vexing but it is fairly complex stuff. Even for pre-existing magento folks. Nigel
Wordpress is definitely the easiest. Even a novice like me can use .. So many plugins it makes it easy to do almost anything.
I recommend none of these. You're trying to put up a classifieds site. Get a dedicated php script for classifieds. All these other suggestions are telling you to use a tool not designed for what you're trying to do. It's like saying you need to move lots of furniture and you're being told to get a good horse or a motorcycle.
Read again. He wants some type of marketplace script. He needs to have a basic classifieds, for sale, marketplace script. Everyone here is talking about article/blogging and extensions that were never made to do what he wants in a dedicated script.
He is looking for what is called a multi vendor solution like etsy, any dumbass can knock up craigslist at this juncture. And, sorry if I came across as snarky that was not my intent. "Maybe similar to amazon or ebay" he was pretty literal there, I fail to see the comparison between amazon and craigslist. Nigel
If he's talking about Wordpress and Joomla he's sure as hell not buying a multivendor solution. The best he's going to do on a budget is a classifieds-like script. That's what I perceived from what he wrote and then saw a whole bunch of others jump on the freeware CMS bandwagon.
Wordpress is definitely the most convenient. Especially if you know EVEN BASIC PHP. It has so many security plugins as well. So the above post about security can be overlooked as long as you set up those plugins. There are many Woocommerce, Ecommerce, and Amazon dedicated themes that can be customized and optimized. I've built many myself. Good luck OP.
