Hi, please have a look at my wallpaper site http://www.freewallpaperx.com. Please comment if you found anything I can do to improve it. Thanks a million
one more thing... anybody having experience with adsense on wallpaper site? e.g. CTR expected ....currently between 1-2%
The images at the top seem a bit blurry. I would try to get a better resolution. Also try to get four images up there (above the AS) and have them line up directly over the ads. Many people have mentioned that this tactic leads to way more clicks. My 2 cents.
Get rid of the bloody adsense and center the banner at the top. Seriously, I don't know shit about websites or designing websites, but If I had one there's no way i'd plaster it in adsense, at least not until it was properly good and up & running. It makes it look so Fugly. You've covered it in google ads, If you want to make money so badly you should come up with an original and unique idea for a website. There are 1000's of wallpaper websites out there, and 999 of them are better than yours. (no offense) I'm guessing it's new, as there are hardly any wallpapers in most of the categories. I think you can do SO much to improve it, as right now it looks Very unprofessional and ummm 'tacky' (again, no offense) Add some pictures, Lose the fucking adsense and change the mind numbing colour and you'll be a step in the right direction...
Visually, it is hard to "get" the purpose of the site. I would expect something aimed at the artsy side of things would want more visual pop. I might also try harder to include some more abstract designs because while Jessica Alba is appealing, I would not want my wife to see her on my monitor, at least not on the active window. Sites offering skins for Gnome and KDE might offer some inspiration. Your branding is also off base. Are you the random AdSense ad website or are you a wallpaper site?
I agree with backing off the adsense a bit. Go with one well-placed ad block--maybe the one at the top with sample wallpapers over top. Use the rest of the real estate freed up by removing adsense to post more thumbnails. I would want to see a few more compelling examples on that home page. As it is now, I am not likely to stay. I would also reduce the huge number of directories on the home page, too. Go with fewer, broader categories with a few good linked teaser examples under each, such as Celebrity Eyecandy Wallpapers .... Jessica Alba, Pamela Anderson, Ruth Buzzi... In general, you just have too much text for a site with visually-oriented content. --A--
Too many ads!!! A huge turn-off. Took me a while to understand the premise of the site. Needs a larger banner. The ads though, big problem...
Too much blue...It's so hard on the eyes. When I design/use templates for new sites, I look for something people will easily look at. If it hurts to read, then the "back" button is surely coming.
At first your forums name dissuaded me from viewing as I am an Apple fan, but I decided to help out anyway. I am running DeerPark on my iBook with AdBlock so the site looks pretty clean. The Free WallPaper X looks very pixelated. If you have access to image editing software, I'd recommend creating a small JPG or PNG for the header image instead of trying to use web acceptable fonts. A nice embossed image would work well. As I mentioned in a previous post, navigation is key, so it's good that you have all of your links right up front. However, the list is rather daunting. I'd almost break those up into categories so the viewer has less to look at in one single glance. It's a bit overwhelming. Hope that helps!
Thanks guys for the positive inputs. Ok, so things I am going to do are 1. Make a better looking logo 2. Categorization of images 3. color 4. adsense placement 5. more original content The changes will be gradually put in, so if you want to see the result, do check out the wallpaper site and make more comments. Thank you
Lol, sarkie... We are only being honest. Which in the long run is a good thing for you because now you know what to work on and improve. Sounds like a start, good luck.
1. Make a better looking logo 2. Categorization of images 3. color - ok 4. adsense placement - ok, i guess... 5. more original content
