Mailchimp is the best free email/autoresponder tool I know of (I don't use it anymore though, since there are better paid options in my opinion). Note, however, that it's only free for the first 2000 subscribers -- once your list exceeds that number, you'll have to start paying for the service.
There are many email marketing company which provide their platform for free. But they do have restriction of sending mails. Popular ones are Mailjet, Vertical Response and Mailchimp. At the same time with free platform they do not give access of all the features they have. If you are willing to avail automation then you will have to go for paid subscription.
If you want instant gratification and have no emails currently just fill up 2k at MailChimp 2k at Mailerlite and 2.5k at simplycast. and thats 6500 emails, you should be able to make some $$$ with that. I have a post up in general marketing for Mautic, its unlimited as to the amount of captures u can get, but all the email platforms they give you are very constricting so you need a workaround to avoid bouncing emails, because php is hitting the spam folders all day long. SOLUTION: they allow u to use a custom smtp. So you just signup with zoho and you can drop bombs and have a low bounce rate
For sure. They offer a free email hosting service in which you can use up to 25 email accounts for any top level dns registrar you have. So basically if you own a domain name or buy one for like a dollar from somewhere like Namecheap or Godaddy, you can just go there and get them to host your email. While I do have a VPS with postfix hypothetically I could just host myself, but the complication you run into is the trust of your domain and a strong likeliness of having a high bounce rate. Utilizing a more authoritative service seems to be more efficient (especially when it's free lol!). Zoho is 514 Alexa rank with an 87 MoZ DA, so they definitely can serve up some emails and they're pretty graceful on the cap for daily output. I don't recall what the cap was off the top of my head, I do know it beats the hell out of Mailgun's 50 daily for certain hehe.

Mailchimp is free to use for your first 2,000 subscribers, and it can send 12,000 emails a month. Personally I use GetResponse, it has a free 30 day trial and you can cancel if it doesn't work out well for you. Also, if you refer someone to use GetResponse you both would get $30.
There are lots of mailing tools available in the market but some are more costly and some cheap. AWeber active campaign Get response Zoho Mail Constant Contact Putsmail Reach Mail Drip Mailjet iContact
My honest suggestion is to invest in a email marketing tool instead of using a free one. You need to invest in tools for your business and the email marketing one is probably the most important. Don't use Mailchimp cause you'll gonna regret it when your business will get bigger and you'll figure out all the limitations it has. The worst thing is to create all your automation and email funnels on Mailchimp, and realise months after that you need to move everything to a service that allows you to do more things. Trust me, you don't want to go through this. I tried all the most popular ones, and I can tell you that Active Campaign is the best on the market. It's the more usable, it covers all the areas you need for an online business and is supported everywhere.
Everyone replied here that Mailchimp is the best one. In my opinion there is another one good alternative Zoho or Drip.
I tried many mails that are written here, but from my own experience I can say that the best is a protonmail.com.
