Hi, I have just built a website for my sister's new Art Consultation business based in Sydney. As I'm in the UK, it has been interesting sharing views with her, via email. I'm keen to give her new business a boost with the web site and would welcome any feedback - good or bad. The site can be found at www.layardart.com.au Thanks in anticipation. Jon
Hi Jon, The first thing that grabbed my attention there, and I totally respect it.. A FavIcon..many website owners forget about the favicon. Congrats! My comments will be short and to the point. The design is simple, clean, easy navigation. But I feel its too much "black-and-white" perhaps you meant it to be this. Its total discretion. My second point is about the logo. I'd suggest changing the border around the logo to a less significant border. Maybe a pixel smaller and make it solid (not shadowed) My last point is regarding the HR those horizontal spacers. I'd recommend using a more solid spacer ..you could do easy one in photoshop. The HR works fine for the purpose but it lays out shadows. Overall, nice design, and good work.
Hi Jon, Here is my feedback about your website. 1) It is a simple website with easy navigation. Which is good. 2) If you wish to make the website more impressive, make it a little colourfull, add some borders etc. Now the website looks plain. 3) The logo looks very ordinary, since it is an art consulting you can make the logo more attractive to the visitiors. Keep the simple design, but try to do some modifications. Ultimately the website should convey the visitors what it is selling in a positive way. Since it is a art consulting website, you can create wonderful design for it.
Since you're in the art field, I would consider a different logo. I like the fact you used a favicon.
Thanks for all of the comments, really helpful. The site is deliberately plain to show off the artwork better (or at least that's the theory), but I will experiment with the use of a spot colour just to left it slightly. There are some artists currently working on the logo, just wanted something there to fill an initial gap. EnPassant, I have removed the hr lines - was that what you meant? Many thanks Jon
I liked the changing of the art pieces. Looks good. It is plain and gives a better feel for the art pieces.
I love the banner and the rotating pics, clean and professional looking design, no overpowering colours just as it should be if you want the content to be the focus point. Quick loading also. Nicely done.
Perhaps either make the whole design fluid so that it fills the browser or make all the tables the same width. The wider upper and lower sections, combined with the narrower main content, I found visually distracting but hey that's just me. Good site though. Congrats.
It's a bit too simple for an art site. It could take more creativity in layout and design though. But for the beginning it's OK. I'm sure it will not stay as it is.
Thanks guys for the continued feedback and Arnie, you're quite right, it won't stay as it is. There are plenty more plans in the pipeline especially as more artists begin to provide examples of their work and the site is officially launched. Thanks again everyone
