Hi there - We have recently launched www.you-cubez.com which has generated a great deal of interest and traffic within just 1 month. The site allows you to advertise, have fun and make money... all with a cube! We have already been ranked as high as 80,000 on Alexa's Daily Ranking and currently receive hundreds of unique visitors daily. We are looking for any feedback on the site (+ive or -ive) which will be much appreciated Regards, Tom
I like the design concept of your site (the cubes). What I would do is.. keep the layout as is, but redesign the cubes.. something more moder and web 2.0. Maybe glass-y glossy cubes?
It's an interesting idea.. however actually finding anything without having to mouse over each cube to read the ALT text is completely impractical.. Unless I'm missing by looking at the site in Firefox 2.x.. One suggestion might be to have cubes expand to a larger cube with some basic info of the site it's link to? Just an idea.
Simple, clean, good use of gradients, gloss. Here are some examples http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/web-2.0-design-style-guide.cfm
Thanks gammaray. I was thinking of having a section listing all cube owner websites so you can check out a list of sites there rather than having to mouse over each cube. Javascript mouseover may have looked better, but after 40/50 cubes the slight would have become tediously slow! I'd take your comments into consideration - thank you! Regards, Tom Thanks 8everything -I'll take a look Regards, Tom
I would probably register the domain name youcubez.com. I would prefer it if there was a short description of the site or the site name under the cube so you know what site you are going to visit?
Hi Anduril66 - thanks for your comments. I'll have a think about that. The only problem I might have is if some of the domains are long in length, it might start ruining the layout of the cubes?! I'll have a think - although you can just rollover the cubes and see what they point to in the bottom left hand corner of the page. Hmmm... thanks for the comments
Hi 8everything - I have played around with the cube designs and have uploaded a test page: www.you-cubez.com/index2.html - I have changed several of them (You should be able to tell) Let me know what you think... that applies to anyone else who is interested to comment Regards, Tom
hello. this a nice idea indeed. i like the first design a little bit more than the one on the second page(index2.html) it's not too flashy, that's why i like it.
Thanks Kassi! The site is ranked at 60,649 on Alexa for today - so you can see the amount of traffic the site is generating (So who's going to be the 1st Digital Point Forum Cube Owner?! )
Hi there - Our site was launched just over a month ago and has come a long way! www.you-cubez.com We have had some reviews previously, but want updated opinions and suggestions, now that things have started to really take off! Any suggestions on layout, colour scheme, design or anything you have to say would be much appreciated
Let me bow to Alex Tew first 1. A one liner to show what the site is all about at the top of the page will help people to find out what it is all about. I was about to leave when I noticed those links on the right side. You use it as your signature - why don't you put something similar at the top of the site? 2. When mouse moves over a cube, if you can display an expanded advertisement (look at the way Netflix does it), rather than mouse tip, that will provide added value to your customers. 3. The space on the right side can be used for cubes, if you change those huge cube links to ordinary hyperlinks 4. You let them buy a cube, and to increase their cube value, and then allow them to sell it for the higher value. Why would someone pay that increased value, just because you and the cube owner decided that it is going to be of higher value? You may need to tweak this strategy a bit. 5. This is the 1037th ( ) pixel-spinoff I have seen, but everytime, I see something new! At least, you are trying to create some kind of uniqueness, that is laudable. Best wishes!
Hi - Thanks for the comments - it's much appreciated! It seems that if you create a website selling advertising space, it is a pixel spin off site??! This is far from selling pixels The problem with large Javascript mouseovers is that as I have over 50 cubes, and it will mean loading over 50 rollover boxes. From experience, this will slow the site down greatly so... I might need to think of an alternative. With regards to the cube selling - If a customer purchases a cube for £5 and increases it to £30, they may then decide to sell it for £20 making a £15 profit and the buyer will save £10! Does that make more sense? I decided to lay the cubes out in rows of 10, and wanted a different layout from most sites as I think this current layout gives nice originality. But... I will bare in mind what you have said and appreciate you taking the time to review the site All the best
