Hi, Had a couple of comments on my site already, but keen for more. I'm not out to make tons of money from it (though it'd be nice, obviously) so it's more from a design/content point of view I'm looking for feedback on. Any comments on how best to fit in the AdSense stuff to improve the CTR would be nice too Cheers! Baz
Hi there. My first reaction was one of being very impressed, it looks great! My next reaction was to hide my eyes because I felt overwealmed by the sheer amount of things on screen. So I opened my eyes and read to discover that the content is great! And man, I'm jealous of the Cannon and Ball scalf! I used to own a Chas'n'Dave scalf but lost it somewhere along the lines. I'm loving your site right now. As for adsense money. Well, I didn't actually see the adsense on your page til I realised that I had to scroll to the right to reveal yet more items to overwealm my senses with. So I guess, all I can say to get more from them, you'll probably need to put them somewhere more bold and not tucked away in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. Cheers! Chris
Cheers, Chris. Yeah, that first page really hits you like a sledgehammer to the face. It's a bit too busy, so I'll tone it down a bit. As for having to scroll to the right, what resolution are you set at? A Chas & Dave scarf would be fabulous - I'll be sure to keep my eyes open Baz
Hi. Due to the excellent WebDeveloper extention to firefox. I can tell you that my browser window is at 898x741. My actual screen size is 1280x1024. But I never browse with a window at the width of the screen because that would do my head in. I don't know what the accepted conventions are. But I'd never assume people have more than a 800x600 display. I guess it's not a killer at your site because the actual "meat" of your content exists well within the ranges viewable without having to scroll in 2 directions just to read. So no pain there. I got my scalf from the merchandise stand when I saw them live about... um... probably 20 years ago now when I was about 9. They may no longer be in existance... but a charity shop would probably be your best bet Cheers Chris
it took a while to load but it was fantastic a sensory overload...but i thik that may suit your site didnt see the adsense at all, i may have it blocked ...sorry
Yeah that was deliberate. While I (maybe mistakenly) assumed most people would use 1024x768 I made sure all the important stuff fit into an 800x600 resolution. Should only be the related articles boxes on the right which don't, and my adsense. Another reason to put the adsense in the main content then! deadhippo - thanks, glad you like it! There's no adsense on the main page itself, but there is on all contents pages and the forums. Obviously not visible enough
H Baz, its a cool site and you could really integrate adsense which would enrich the choice of content, I use 1024 but always have the favourites list there so I never noticed any adsense at all either. Wide ads generally do better than long ads so I would put a 728x90 along the top under your main nav and and two 336x280's embedded in the content, one a third of the way down and one 2 thirds of the way down. On your site I would also be tempted to use the colour rotation: 1. Log in to your account at https://www.google.com/adsense 2. Click the 'Ad Settings' tab. 3. On the 'Ad layout code' page, scroll to the 'Colour palettes' section. 4. Hold the Control or Command key as you click the desired palettes. You may select up to four (4) palettes that will randomly rotate in one ad unit. 5. Copy and paste the generated ad code into the source code of your pages. That would spice things up a bit and bring in a hugely improved CTR, however what you implement may be based on more than just profit.
had a look at your web page and as per me I think your layout needs little bit of tweaking as your header and footer are not that well placed
