I just created this skin and wanted to get some of your thoughts. http://www.gamecomplex.com/ I have my own ideas for what I will still change but I thought I'd post it here and get some opinions before doing anything else just yet. Positive and negative reviews are welcome.
Anyone care to go into more detail? Is there too much of a contrast, for example, or is it fine as is?
Skin does look great. Was looking for something to pick on, so this is the only thing I have found: The white border of the New Thread and Post Reply buttons seems a little out of place when button is on red. Maybe you could try to remove it.
The template design is okay, but I think how the black to red to white gradient is a bit too harsh. A red which gradually changes to a light red may work better.
Well nothing has ever been finalized in web development, right? Always room for improvement. And yeah I'm playing with the gradient still and I know about that button. Originally there was no gradient behind it so the white border didn't show. I need to make it transparent now though.
The banner could use a little more referring to games. I see the graphics part, but the games part doesn't show.
It looks clean. Nice skin. I am always surprised when people use bold colors, though. I tend to stay away from sites that are too dark or too busy. I like white or lighter colored backgrounds.
I too have to agree with 8everything & Zerosleep , that background gradient is too distracting. I would also suggest a lighter background where the header is as i also had difficulties reading and more importantly remembering what it says on the header... Don't use a background image where people are going to try to read something... But i think this is a good start to a gaming template (i too like the colours, you might want to consider a slight hint of orange to give it a fire colour/gradient/look).
I would have to agree with vashi, just remember to keep thinking outside of the box. if you keep second guessing yourself then you just don't have it right. you will have it right when you don't keep second guessing what you are doing or trying to improve.
