    Hi all,

Still working on adding more and more content before I start promoting the site, including a magazine category with sections such as review, opinion, travel, food & drink, etc, etc, but the basic design is just about there, so I'd be grateful for any feedback/advice you can give on www.theobservant.co.uk

    Cheers!

I'll be the 1st to review it :)

I think the colors go very well together. The things I'm not so sure of are:

    1. The news and mailing list column. I think those should be on the far left to give your site a left, center, and right column

    2. I noticed at a higher resolution that your site isn't fluid. This isn't a big deal or anything but I find sites that do stretch are more appealing.

That's just my .02 though. I like it so far, keep up the work :)

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for the review!

You may be right on the column layout. To be honest I did it this way more for a change than anything else, as my other sites tend to have the main content in a wide centre column, with navigation and things being in the left and right hand columns. I may switch this site to a similar layout as you suggested as - among other things - it would bring the far right AdSense ads closer to the main content, which may boost CTR.

I made a conscious decision to lock the site to that width, as making it fluid upsets the image/text alignment for the articles on the main page and it looks a bit rubbish! I personally prefer fixed width sites anyway, but maybe that's just me!
