Please review SpeakUp.cc

I'd really love to hear some feedback about SpeakUp.cc. Its a general discussion forum for every imaginable topic.
It just started recently and therefore isnt extremely large yet but I'd nevertheless like to know opinions about things like general layout/impression, topics, arrangement of the forums, the general idea and like that.

    Thanks everybody.

Your site is overall pretty good. The only suggestion I have is darkening the text on the homepage in the forum entries. Make it bold.

Nice template you chose. I wasn't aware SMF had this one.

Anyway, definitely add more categories, and perhaps a separate category for each thing. One for tech, one for politics and so on.

Also choose your categories wisely, and you might need to set some rules, like no flame wars, and if you add religion, you might need some moderators there...

Aside from that, nice domain name, and perhaps add a custom logo.

It's a good start but I'd like to see more graphics in the layout, even a speaker icon beside the text.

    Thanks you-cubez.

    Thank you 1-3-3-7.

More categories will come. I just didnt want to create 187 empty categories right from the start ;).

Moderators will definitely be wanted later on. But generally I want SpeakUp to be rather liberal.

Something I definitely plan, but first I want to see how the forum goes.

Thanks 8everything, I certainly want to get a logo.

Thanks again everyone, would appreciate further reviews/opinions as well.

Nice job overall. One thing I liked is that the Google ads were conspicuous by their absense! Another observation is that there didn't seem to be much categorization of your board. May be that is good, since it is simple and you don't have to click through to read some message. But you might want to add more categorization as the board becomes larger. So is this a commercial version of SMF or a free version? Good luck.

I didnt want to start off with too many empty categories but they will follow later.

I would still appreciate further comments. Thanks.

    That's a great strategy.

I love the desaturated colours and the layout.
But just one thing, I think it would be easier for the user if the last section "SpeakUp.cc - Info Center" would use a 100% width, just like the header does. This way, the user would be a able to take a look at the topics really fast.

very nice can´t fault it, maybe suggest the lower light blue bar be in slight gradient too for more depth

    Site looks pretty good!
    Few comments:
    - I'ld change the normal state link color a bit, or underline it, so it is clear what is a link, and what not.
    - I'ld make 'Did you miss your activation email?' completely a link, instead of 'activation email?' only.
    - Don't put "news" in a bar when there is no news ;)
I'ld say, add news like "(date): speakup.cc launched" or so :)
    - There are not so many forums, while your forum has so many topics to talk about ... maybe add a few more, to make it a bit more structurized? Well, its ok like now too, but still lol

    I hope this helps a bit ..
