I decided to start a new website: PerlForums.org. Any hints/tips on how I can improve it? Or general thoughts?
Shouldn't you use a perl based forum software? There are a few out there. Yabb is pretty dang good actually.
Looks okay. . . It's good that you haven't created too many sub forums. Wait for these forums to get active and then you can create more sections (too many sections and few threads make your forum look dead). A few suggestions: I would modify the top part. The dark blue and the dark gray bands don't match with the rest of the color scheme of the site. Modify the colors so the site feels like it all fits together. You could add a symbol to your logo. Also I would remove the dark gray border around the text in the logo because it makes it look older. The highlighting of the dark blue header is too intense. Back off on it a bit and make it look more subtle. My 2 cents. Skinny
Your template is way too generic. I see it all the time. Maybe the logo a little nicer, move the login info to the left and fill that space with some actual content and maybe some pictures and lastly, the page is too darn wide. Pull everything over to the left so all browsers can see it properly. The code is laid out very nicely. I can't see any coding mistakes.
