Hello everyone! I am in need of some opinions on my website. I have it designed in WIX and want to know if I am doing the right thing or if I can make it easier on me with a different design. (IE Wordpress, Jomla). The website is at http://mormonflix.com. Do you like the design. It is getting tiresome to putting the picture, creating the page and putting in the content. Is there an easier way?
I wouldn't say it's a bad design, but looks fairly outdated. There are plenty of free css template sites that offer nice, eye-catching templates that you may want to consider using: http://www.freecsstemplates.org/css-templates/ And as far as making easier on you, you can try using blogger.com or some similar platform, where you don't need to know any html or css and still have your pages updated with fresh content fast & easy.
Could be responsive, doesn't work too well on mobile sites, I think you need to rethink the color of the text on your top navigation as Contact Us and Videos, the font is too close to the background. I know its not all your fault, but your whole website is in a frame which navigates to this page here: http://americanenglish4all.wix.com/mormonflix and the code-behind is just horrific, but then that's what you get with free builders. My advise? Don't waste your time with a free web builder, your time would be far better invested if you learnt to do it all yourself. Skills for life!
Yeah the only thing that I know is Wordpress. That doesn't work with the system that I have it professional like http://www.lovefilm.com/. But that I have NO CLUE what they are using. Building with Wix is easier and if I paid for the service ($10 a month) then it would take off the ads, allow it to ONLY go to Mormonflix.com....but want to get money per month from visitors before that happens.
Wordpress is quite a bad system too, many here would tell you. While it does have some very good features, and is good for people who don't want to know about web standards, coding etc, it simply isn't a standard platform for professionals. Why use a generic system for a custom website? Your website, CMS, design, everything suddenly and instantly becomes not fit for purpose. User experience is everything, if you want to make sales, make your users feel comfortable, easy to navigate. I took a look at your website, saw that it was using frames and the first thing I did was get my iPhone out to see if you had a mobile version, to which, admittedly, you do. Problem is, it's constantly reloading the frame, zoom out - reload, zoom in - reload. I even clicked a link and it took me to a page with nothing on it -- until I realized that it had taken me to a page the equivalent of about 10,000px high and left me at the bottom where there were no content -- not good. That type of thing will lose you visitors and ultimately sales. If you won't invest in a website that is fit for purpose, why should people invest in your products? It's a simple algorithm of good experience = increased sales -- bad experience = stay clear.
Thanks for the advice scott! So what you are saying is that I am going to have to start with a new platform or should I just pay the $10 a month to take out the frames?
It doesn't work too well with the frames, removing them isn't going to change that. Plus, you're extremely limited on expansion i.e. you can only change what they let you change. You would be far better either paying a reputable company to create something for you or better still -- learn yourself.
