How are you advertising your site? That could be reason for bounce rate being so high. Your site is in a very specialized field and needs to be advertised accordingly.
I advertise though adwords until my seo can kick in. I have had many adwords accounts before with bounce rates around 40-50%. it was the same demographic with the same ads and keywords used. the only thing I changed was the landing pages. I cant tell if the website is too slow or not or if im just crazy.
It was pretty fast for me. What is your target audience? Have you tried advertising on yellowpages.com? That could help you get real strong and targeted leads in addition to adwords.
