Please review my home insurance website - Your thoughts on design, colors,ad placement ect. Website - http://www.homeinsurancecomparison.info Thanks in advance
I don't like the header being an ad. If I am going to the site for information, don't try to get me to click the ad right away. I would use a smaller ad either in the body of the text, or off to the side. Equally, I don't like the big banner of text ads from Google. Those are another turn off for me. I don't mind them in the text or in the sidebar, but again, sell me that the site is legit first, then give me the ads. Next, and this may just be me, I hate the .info domains. As an internet marketer I know they are generally going to be selling me, and most people feel the safe way. It is rare, albeit not impossible, to see a .info domain in the top ten sites in Google or many other engines. I would recommend finding a different domain if you haven't put too much time into this one already.
wow thanks heaps for the honest and indepth review. I will certainly look into make some changes. I went with the info because I am confident I can rank it with some hard work and some good content. BUT I am still looking for a good .com < very hard to find. Thanks
And hopefully you can rank with .info. I just know it is a little harder, but you are right, with hard work you can get it there.
I have to agree with the poster above. The text ads from Google make the site look less appealing; they would be fine if placed in the side column. Also, the huge banner ad is slightly confusing; initially I didn't realise it led to a competitor's website, since the subject matter is the same. I'm also not a fan of the dark grey background. It looks a little gloomy to me. Perhaps a lighter shade of grey or a pastel colour would look more appealing.
"Also, the huge banner ad is slightly confusing; initially I didn't realise it led to a competitor's website, since the subject matter is the same." That is what I was after so that is a good thing. This is an affiliate site promoting an offer on cj.com I will take down the adsense ads and make them less obvious. redlink - yep lots of hard work especially in the insurance related keywords. But I have seen a few .info's at number 1 - not many but a few - prchecker.info is one that ranks high for an info I know of. Thanks a lot everyone.
