Well first I would recommand you to choose another color scheme. Grey isn't that inviting. Green or blue would be great. The most important thing is, that you influence the mood of your members. Therefore you could change the color.
I agree, change the grey colour scheme and also remove some of those banner images they overtake the usability and ease of reading the forum categories.
I think this same. If there wouldn't be blue fonts, that would be complete b-w vintage . It doesn't fit tu much to body bulding forum. I think you could make a "NEWS" forum with some useful information without comment option. ps: what is that??? rotfl
Id implement a points system with some kind of monthly award giveaway. Its genders some healthy competition amongst people and gives motivation for checking boards and answering questions.
Thanks for comments all, I am looking to redesign the layout, though I don't see much in color I like or feel fits the site. it's geared towards advanced discussion, somewhat "hardcore" feel, but I can see what I can design for a new look. As far as banners, I'm working on that.
