Hi Everyone, I've redesigned a site for selling domain names and web hosting about two months ago. Positive or negative criticism welcome. What would you like to see included that would make you more inclined to purchase? The url is: Domains at Retail - http://www.domainsatretail.com Thanks.
I like it. I didn't read it, but the first reaction to the design, the look and the feel is positive, at least from me. It looks very professional in my opinion. Good Luck with it
Thanks I was going after the professional look that will make people feel positive about my site and purchasing from the site. I'm just not sure if after reading the content does that initial positive feeling stay or make people leave. Any other comments?
Very good, neat and professional design. I like those cute characters you've used with the images in the right column. I'd suggest that you highlight the hosting packages and their rates also on the home page.
Thanks again. I'm assuming then my animated graphics on the home page probably aren't doing much for my site? The one graphic does highlight the hosting costs at the end of the animation, but maybe no one is seeing it? Do you think highlighting hosting as a replacement for the two animated graphics would help people check out my hosting offers? And what does everyone think about the area in the middle: Domains at Retail develops your Online Presence! Get Started Promote Enhance i'm thinking of making it work more like this AJAX based example - http://prototype-carousel.xilinus.com/ajax - where my products would show up in the carousel and people can click left and right to view more products... maybe that would get more interest in the products i'm selling?
Way too busy, IMHO. Its not bad persay, but I think it looks slightly sloppy with so many items. I'd move the domain search box to the middle, and not have anything else on the line with it. Then I'd get right to the point with your hosting packages, and list them right under then domain search. Also, most people who are shopping for hosting are semi web savvy. So there's no need to have car-sales style banners like the "Break Free" one. I'd make it a lot more minimalistic to appeal to those customers. Just my thoughts, good site. Cheers George
Alrite, so it looks like the animated images will be cut from the next set of revision to the main page and replaced with web hosting packages instead. I to like the idea of displaying the hosting packages there. With the domain search box, Since I do keep it at the top of every page on my site, would it be bad to keep it up top to keep it consistent with the other pages and then have a second domain search box within the main page content? Or do you even think the domain search box is necessary to have on every page?
Not a huge fan of the colorscheme.. I still get a sense that it's monochromatic yet you have more than one color in your layout. What I would do is add in icons (using their full colors, you don't need to make them the same colors as your colorscheme) and also photographs.
I think its OK for the first page to look differently then the secondary pages. So I would not maintain consistency, and make the landing page very simple. The whole "call to action" idea.
