I like the gradient on the orange bar, quite web 2.0 What I would do is apply the same effect to your main header but using the color brown instead.

 

same as 8everythingm but one more advice don't resize images by code, but do it with some graphic programs

 

not bad for a blog site, a little to bland though

 

Good blog just remember to keep making interesting post and opinionated.
