You will get much Rep + love from DP's polyamorous living legend- me. I've blended (links are in my standard link blue while text is in maroon which is what I use for titles, important quotes, dates, etc), done rotating random images above my leaderboard, placed my skyscraper to the right (used to have them on the left), and have an ad link. Leaderboard does the best while skyscraper might have a few clicks while ad links almost nothing (except those actually make the most per click, ironic). Ad links I've tried new the comment button and now up top, neither seem great placement. I'm also having some trouble constantly getting targeted ads. Filtered out truly useless ads but still get other noncontextual ads despite using keywords, metas, and so forth. Note, I do have other products & services that I market so I can't plaster AdSense everywhere. Let me know what you think!
until a few months ago I had my adsense very much like you a large banner on top ( mine w/o the pics ) and vertical ads always on the right of pages ... then one day late last December/early Jan I had some extra time and stumbled upon Googles askthebuilder-Google AdSense Case Study https://www.google.com/adsense/askthebuilder then I took th etime to really read all Google had - and visited askthebuilder site and surfed several pages to see how askthebuilder implemented adsense then I found Google's tips about adsense placment https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html that seen I change entirely my own adsense placement according to G's recommendation an data provided ... and doubled my CTR/$ ! for your it means move your vertical to the left upper part of page have a large rectangle added - may be somewhere in center area of pages have a link unit on each page looking at Google's placement recommendation - you see the page-areas with highest CTR and will find a solution to add the code exactly or nearest there on CMS systems that is easiest by placing the code directly in the page-templates on static pages even easier by hand-pasting th ecode where it best fits the content above all keep in mind that Google is definitely your very best friend in all tips, tricks and "secrets" for making max profits on adsense since you have one share and G the OTHER share of the "$-cake" but another point you may have forgotten is ... traffic your alexa data show near zero traffic and low PR hence it seems you have still to register your site with many specialized directories/SE to get higher PR and you may need more individual posts - fully SEO'd to draw MUCH more traffic in YOUR trade that should be reallyh easy ALL people on this planet have one in common - they are attracted by the topic love, dating etc ... because that topic meets one of the most basic innermost needs of mankind ... hard qualified work is the key to success - steady learning is the means to achieve it
on another page you see correctly 4 ads to the 4 pics the ad units allows 4 ads 3 or less only are shown if insufficient ads available for that keyword-page
AsianPlayboy- I am interested in what code you used to get the rotating images. I like that a lot. What type of CTR are you getting from the leaderboard and images? THanks Ichbanda
sometimes a little bit playng detective and webmaster combined helps a lot to get instant replies and gives all the answers: show source ( pics are hotlinked from a geocities site ) question to AsianPlayboy: "is this your site on geocities ?" then google for the javascript author of the rotation code Bontrager Connection image rotation and you find the original code to " Display Random Images within Your Web Page" from William Bontrager the page has a nice, detailed online howto for all those loving rotating pics. since the entire howto is online with all code on code-authors website - it appears this is FREE code to be used by all i like the rotating myself - that's why i wanted an instant answer ...
i use this script, it rotates images in a folder. no customisation or setup needed (usually). <img src="random.php"> will produce 1 random image.
danzor thank you for your tip i may prefer the php version to rotate on my html/php site as it keeps the pages cleaner in valid code and the code to be inserted is much smaller do you have a particular page on your site where you use the random.php to rotate pics ??
Thank you all for taking a look at my website! Hans, remember, I also have other products & services that I'm marketing, advertising is simply more icing on the cake. Ergo, the most important things are on the left. I did have the Skyscraper on the left and have recently moved it to the right. From what I can tell, there isn't a whole lot of statistical difference. I'm trying to figure out how to put block ad units in the meat of my blog posts, except Blogger just can't seem to do it. I've researched on Blogger oriented sites and they all agree that it can't seem to be done. I suppose at some point I"ll need to get my own domain. My traffic is still growing, it's far from being a big boy, though it's doubled recently and has a PR4. I'm trying to grow backlinks by establishing relationships with other like sites as well as being placed in directories. I've forgotten how many I've applied too and I don't even know which ones I've been accepted/rejected. I've got metas, I've got tags, what the heck more is there other than paying for it? And, like you pointed out with 3 vs 4 ad links, there is a limited inventory in what I do. Niche can be a two-edged sword.
Quick update on SEO stuff and PR stuff, the Zeal directory denied me, stating it was too commercial of a site. Add-url.com added me. Haven't heard from DMOZ or half a dozen other directories. Couple of more sites in the industry have linked me.
Hey Danzor, just tried to use that PHP script in order to replace all the java stuff. Alas, no go, no image displayed. Does Blogger not support PHP, is that why it isn't working?
Right now, it's messed up because I put my image files on geocities and surpassed my transfer limit so it looks weird when some of the images can't display (I guess it's time for me to do something about it since my traffic has been increasing... ah high quality problems). But usually it looks fine on my end when I check it in both Firefox and IE.
Cool, I like the placement a lot and it does blend quite well with the content too. Although this makes it good, I am not sure how it goes with the TOS?? I think there was another thread here discussing something similar with some "Draw a pig" website. Can't find that thread now!
>...I am not sure how it goes with the TOS?? I think there was another thread here discussing something similar with some "Draw a pig" website...< Yes, that's an excellent thread. In this case, his Adsense placement using graphics complies with what was last posted in that thread and elsewhere I've read. Specifically, he has "lines" separating the pictures from the ads - plus, for that matter, the graphics are generic while still being relevant to the type of adsense ads being displayed. Regarding the problem with exceeding badwidth at Geocities (so sometimes the pics aren't showing) you may want to consider using flickr and/or photobucket (et al) to host the graphics. Not sure what the bandwidth limits are at Geocities but one or both of these two photo hosting websites might be better. Regards, -Steve
Indeed, horizontal lines are placed between the pics and the ads, as suggested by Google e-mails to comply with the TOS. Haven't seen a difference with regards to it impairing effectiveness. Did eventually go to photobucket. Still keep some files on geo though since photo won't host anything other than images. Big wowser here, switched the AdSense font color from brickred to black (the title/link used my standard link color of blue) and my CTR *doubled*! Of course, we're talking low single digits to- uh- yeah still single digits, but simply having black font seemed to have made a difference.
